Telkom integrated data wallet launched

still no news on this?
i think i should get a telkom sim card this weekend.

Don't yet. Wait for it to launch.

The MyBroadband article seems to have been based purely on the teaser inside tracker.

There teaser is there because some users, who have had long histories of repeat faults or who have been waiting months for line installations, have been sent SIMs over the past week or so and so the full feature set was deployed to tracker so that they could understand their usage.

The actual public launch will happen in a few weeks (I don't have the full details as we were only really concerned with the timelines of the technical implementations).

I have to say, that this approach to helping suffering customers is a fantastic new approach from Telkom. I have never had bad service or product but I know there are plenty of people who feel they havr not been looked after.

Switching the sufferers to LTE so that they can use their DSL cap is mighty impressive. If this does go mainstream for all of us TelkomInternet customers, it will be mindblowng.

Nothing.

I got this SMS the other day, I'm not sure whether its related:

"Telkom is bringing the heat. SA's most unlimited network will change the way you connect this summer. Watch this space."

Nothing.

Received same...

Yeah, that SMS made me think about this thread as well.

The sms probably refers to their summer unlimited promo which is live in their site. It's quite vague but def not this shared data wallet

I still haven't been able to activate this service with Telkom despite several calls and DMs. This is the latest response I have from Telkom via a Twitter DM on September 14th:

Hi Mike, please see the information about Intergrated Data Wallet Promotion below.^SG
Telkom has launched its “integrated data wallet” – an enhancement to the Telkom Internet Softcap product which enables a subscriber to use SoftCap data on mobile, ADSL, VDSL, and FTTH connections. “If you have a Telkom Internet 3G/LTE SIM card, you can use your xDSL/FTTH data for both mobility and failover,” said Telkom. “The mobility data usage will be deducted from your SoftCap/Integrated Data Wallet Quota – for every 1 byte of mobile data used, 1 byte will be deducted from your wallet,” said Telkom. Details about the service remain sketchy, and Telkom’s helpdesk could not provide further information. Telkom said it will provide details about the service as soon as possible.

So maybe they are having second thoughts. The notice about the Wallet on my broadband usage dashboard has now been removed. :(

I don't think this one is related to integrated wallet, but to the Telkom Mobile summer campaign.

There is currently no way to affect whether you can get this npw (unless you are important to my ~30 colleagues). All customers getting the feature now are pre-selected, and the experience gained from supporting these users will be used to streamline processes.

So the social edit team is quoting the article this thread is about?

No, but the message was resulting in too many queries hitting the call centre (who haven't all been trained on the feature), when the feature has *not* officially been announced or launched to the public.

@ranger: there is clearly a lot of doubt being raised over the validity of this product - this starting to come from many users now, and rightly so by this point as one would expect. I would like to know when we can expect for the record to be set straight?

Kindly, if you will, confirm if there is indeed a difference between a "Telkom Internet 3G/LTE SIM card" and a normal TelkomMobile SIM card? -- Is this a TelkomInternet branded SIM issued by TelkomInternet, or is it a regular TelkomMobile SIM provisioned to work on the TelkomInternet APN, as was previously alluded to?

The reason I ask, is because I have been accused of being demanding for requesting more information about this product by certain community members on this forum. Of course I find this quite troubling, in light of the quote which I feel I am merely defending: “If you have a Telkom Internet 3G/LTE SIM card, you can use your xDSL/FTTH data for both mobility and failover,” said Telkom.

The quote clearly states that as a TI Softcap user who has a Telkom branded LTE SIM as well, I should already be entitled to use this service after all. Please tell me: Am I wrong to draw this conclusion???? There is nothing in the original article quote (which after all matches what was in Telkom's own usage tracker), which says that this is only being released to "pre-selected" customers such that the vast majority of users are excluded? One would think that if "Telkom says" that this product is launched, then there should be no such ambiguous fineprint which later emerges in the forum discussions to say that 99% of us still cant use it? I therefore maintain that the information was misleading; And since the source of these quotes, in their complete form, originates directly from Telkom, rather than being contrived speculation, I therefore think that, as a softcap user myself who has been unable to obtain this service thus far, Telkom does owe us some more information by now as to roughly when this might be rolled out on a normal scale - Either that, or an apology clause in the next "MASSIVE" Telkom-sponsored announcement, for the misleading information about the data wallet if they aren't going to follow through with this after all!

Just saw this now, and it may come just in time. My 1 gig Internet Starter Pack expires at the end of the month, and I'd rather leach off my ADSL than buy another one. Some months I use 20MB for maps and email, other months I use the full gig plus more - this would be perfect. X2, for my two tablets.

SIM 3 goes into the B693 router for office internet backup (it's only fair; Telkom ADSL fails, Telkom provides a "free" backup).

SIM 4 goes into my mother's tablet. I doubt she'll use more than 20MB in a month.

Sim 5 goes into my father's phone. Same thing, normally 20MB max, maybe 100MB when they go away.

So ranger, when is the general rollout?

I think you will require some kind of active TelkomMobile subscription as well, even if it is an ongoing 1GB per month. I imagine that the SIM must at least be active for this to work.

Holding your breath on that one ? ;) It's nice that Ranger offers the forum some answers, and he is not under any obligation to answer this question, but I think we can all agree that Telkom should start to provide more answers about this product by now, whatever platform or company representative/individual they choose for relaying the information is besides the point!

Edit: Speak of the devil! It looks like our pleas for more information have actually been honoured by Telkom (!): http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broad...ated-adsl-mobile-data-wallet-the-details.html

"A statement from managing director of Telkom Mobile and Consumer Attila Vitai suggests the integrated data wallet will not be available to all of Telkom Internet’s subscribers."

Just great, isn't it? One moment this product is "launched for Softcap users", the next thing we hear that it will not be available except to specific customers. Why am I not surprised? The usual hopeful marketing which ultimately turns out to be a false hope / letdown from Telkom. Not cool :/ Telkom should refine all of their product particular details internally before launching. This episode was incredibly misleading and ultimately a big time waster and disappointment

LOL, that didn't take long. Never going to be a general rollout.

Yes! And even this is inconsistent! I quote ranger shortly after the initial announcement:
A launch open to other existing Telkom Internet customers will start in a few weeks.
A bit ironic, hey ... ? Clearly this WAS supposed to be for ALL telkom Softcap users, but something happened and they changed their mind. If that's the case then they need to be more careful and take some internal precautions to preclude these instances from happening again. Don't rub a compelling new product in our face and then say that we can't have it

Telkom, get this right... It will be a complete game changer that other cellular providers cannot match.

Hi guys

I am new to this forum and this is my 1st post.

I received my device and Sim a week ago.

It works really well - I am impressed with Telkom offering this. No clue how they did it but yea it works!!!

Cool and welcome!

What DSL package did you sign up for initially and what were your circumstances for them to give you this offering? Lack of DSL infrastructure or high copper theft area?
