Hi All

I have recently installed a telkom 2Mb/s line and was just wondering if someone could help shed some light for me on what i have experiance. i never get a download speed more than 0.23Mb/s (230 kb/s) i have not reached FUP. Also what is the Priority pass? i had 2 and accidently activated 1 while at work (unable to see what it does) it lasts for 1 hour? and do they replenish them after time and if yes how long ?

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and any help is much appreciated.

Can you post your line stats from the router, also run a speed test and post the results here...

If you reach a FUP and require to run at your full line speed you would use the Priority pass. You receive 2 for a month if I'm correct.

These are some speed tests I have done before. I will do another one once I get home (after 17:00) where do I get the line stats? Do I need to log in to the 10.0.0. Ip address?

Yes should be the 10.0.0.2 address, look for "rate" and "attenuation".

The test this morning looks right... maybe do a few tests with everything else disconnected as there maybe connections from the other machines...

Even when the test showed the 2.07 the download speed never got better that 230kb/s. I will test is again when I get home and also provide you with the line stats.

You have a 2 Megabit(Mb) line which will = to roughly 250 KiloBytes(KB). But you need to factor in 10% for TCP overheads. So your 230Kb/s is pretty good...

Most apps show downloads in bytes per second (e.g. KB/s), not bits per second (which is conventionally used for defining the speeds on network interfaces).

A 2 Mbps line is 2048kbps or 256KB/s at the DSLAM (before at least PPP overheads), so 1.85Mbps (or 231.25KB/s) is about as good as you can get.

If you are unsure, post a screenshot of where the 230 is displayed.

Good Day All,

Hope someone can perhaps help me to understand this new FUP policy thingy from Telkom. I hit FUP1 just before the end of last month, but now it been a new year nevermind a new month lol i see the FUP1 is still active on my account. I truly though this resets monthly. Am i then understanding this all incorrect?

Thanks in advance

There was defect in resetting this on month-end. The defect was fixed and tested in QA, but wasn't deployed to production before the change freeze as requested.

Affected accounts should hopefully be fixed today, and will probably get additional priority passes this month.
