Until the cost per gigabyte is 1c then some people just never going to be happy. Geez, look at the cost per gb on 4mbps uncapped if you use 300gb.

I'm happy with the costs of my 4mb uncapped situation, just GIVE ME MORE SPEED!

does your "user status" get affected if you download between midnight and 6am?

It does not.

Do we have any more info on this hardware issue Telkom is currently experiencing? Our account is locked even though it is all fully paid for. Need to prepare for WWDC & E3 craze happening this week :D.

First of the month and Twitch streaming is terrible again.
So it seems like it was an international capacity problem after all.

I hope the WWDC events will be streaming properly.

According to an email from 10 minutes ago, the problems are resolved for all regions.

@ranger, thanks for the update. Really appreciate it and will follow up with the CC in the morning :). Any info as to what happened for those who like to read the tech side of things :O.

So...

My Telkom Internet account is only supposed to stop working on the 5th. Low and behold, has been de-activated since Saturday morning. Have no doubt, I will not only be billed until the 5th, but for the next few months too while these bunch of hopeless twats figure out I have cancelled.

So glad to be rid (at least partly) of this monkey's ass company.

By the total usage you have done, you should try and run any downloads between 00h00 and 06h00, traffic in these times is not counted for fair use purposes.

What about uploads. I do a lot of Crash Plan backup uploading, is this taken into account.

Dont trust that adsl checker. It says the maximum speed in my area is 10MB but my exchange is only capable of 4MB. Beofre the upgrades it said the max speed in my area was 1MB and my current speed is 4MB.
That adsl checker is a joke!

I just called telkom and apparently 10MB is available in my area. Not only that but I've been paying for 10MB service but my line speed is only 4MB!

You probably have been paying for a 4/10 line and 4mbps data. Ask them to bump it up to 10mbps and see if it's stable. If it just drops, then try 8mbps

I'm trying that but tech support insists only 4mb is available in my area.

Even my router says: Attainable Rate (Kbps): Downstream: 10080 Upstream: 772

They won't differentiate between the type of traffic you pull/send. Trust me, if you do backups in that time then you are fine.

@bwana, what is your adsl modulation currently at? Any one of the following

G.Dmt (this before an exchange gets that 10Mbps+ treatment)
G.Lite
T1.413
ADSL2 (this and + after your exchange gets an upgrade, also shows ATM under type)
AnnexL
ADSL2+ Enabled
AnnexM

If you are on ADSL2/ADSL2+ then your exchange has been upgraded (you can try to manually change and see if it synchs). Unfortunately that Attainable Rate is merely a guideline based on what your router is showing so not a true world indication.

I have a quick question (not going to read 100+ pages and a search didn't yield much):

At what point would you be considered a "power user" on 10Mbit/s uncapped on TI?

See my post - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/596707-Telkom-Internet-Uncapped-User-Feedback-(Pt2)?p=12756007&viewfull=1#post12756007

... note that whatever "limit" TI impose is dependent on your usage pattern, scheduling all downloads between 0:00 - 06:00 would extend my own current guestimated ~600GB. Downloading 24/7 at max line speed would doubtless reduce it.

Patience... customer system crashed last week and was only restored late last night. Backlog is being cleared!

I understand that your exchange (Clarendon Marine) was recently upgraded. It appears that your ISP account remained on the old profile (Faster). More to follow...

Thanks for the reply.

I just spoke to Telkom and upgraded from 10Mbit/s capped (20+20 GB) to uncapped. I'm hoping it's worth it.

Edit: Btw, as someone else also mentioned, it's taking a while since their system crashed Friday.
