Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

Things are snappy as an alligator :D...."touches wood" got a 8.4Mbps reading on Vudu O_O so HDX is a go in 1080p heh.

@copacetic, you on 4Mbps? Much better than what you were getting before but i got to read back to see what has happened in this thread :p.

So I decided to check my line stats to make sure they still good after the Telkom tech came to repair my fault yesterday.
Now I see that Telkom saw fit to reduce my line speed to 3MB, WTF?!?
Can they really do that without consulting you?

My att is 6.5db and SNR is 20db so its not like 4MB would have been unstable or anything

PM TelkomZA and hope you get Charl to attend. I've just sorted out the exact same issue. Morons moved me to 3MB from 4MB. For over a week they kept pushing my call from pillar to post. I PM'd Charl, and he sorted it out. Took him a day or 2 to respond, but he sorted it out quick. Make sure your router is left on. If only everyone at Telkom was as helpful as he is. I'm back to 4MB now :)

Come the evening again and download speeds are ****. This is now a daily thing this time of night. 3 days in a row. Sunday, Monday and today Tuesday.

Most of the posters here have been bitching over Telkom since November last year! You know you can change ISPs right?

when is telkom gonna get more international bandwidth or is it a local thing

This is my last month with Telkom ISP.
They were great when I first moved to them, but speeds and latency have been k@k for me since the end of last year.

Will be trying Afrihost out come April.

Good luck to everyone here.

I was also considering Afrihost, but the feedback thread is almost as bad as this one.

Both Afrihost and Telkom are streaming like **** tonight.
As usual, nzb flying.
It's pretty apparent there is some form of protocol shaping.

Most people come to these threads to vent anyways... So there is not much positive feeback on any of the ISP threads, save for the odd fanboy or three.

So far I have been with Webafrica, Mweb and Telkom (Mweb has given me the best performance, but I refuse to pay a premium for a service which is still throttled at the end of the day). I will test Afrihost out next and see if they are any better...

I should have PM'd Charl and saved myself the hour and a half I spent on the phone to Telkom yesterday.
The first guy I spoke to said my line sync was dropped to 3Mb yesterday by a technician because I complained of disconnects.
I tried explaining the disconnects have been fixed after they repaired the line but the call cut

Called again, elevator music and constant reminders that Telkom will bill me for a call out if the problem isn't related to them blah blah blah. 40min later and finally an answer.
The guy sorted me out in 5min and after a router reboot I was back at 4Mb.

Telkom really needs to sort out their helpdesk, some of the staff really couldn't be bothered. Its a shame because sometimes you get someone thats friendly, knowledgable and gets the job done. If only that attitude was infectious...

Both Telkom and Eskom seems to suffer from the effect of rain. Telkom mail just died this morning as the rain came on.
