Telkom Internet Capped/Uncapped User Feedback (Pt2)

I'm seeing delays of over 30mins on the TI mail servers again - TI to TI, smtp.saix.net & smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net tested.

So yesterday, after a long struggle a technician finally comes to my house, without warning i might ad, had to leave work in a rush at about 13:15.

I get home, he does a few things, tells me to check if it's fine now, problem still excists and at around 14:30, he says "I know what i've got to do"

I'm still waiting for him to come back

I have been having a number of issues with my Telkom ADSL connectivity being pretty unreliable lately and would like to try the Afrihost product as a back-up but not being very tech savy perhaps someone can help me and advise how to do it?

Thanks in advance guys.

An Afrihost capped account im guessing? Are you going to purchase a capped account or is the 1GB free account sufficient?

Really depends on exactly what you mean by 'ADSL connectivity being unreliable'. If your modem loses sync or disconnects regularly etc., changing ISPs won't help.

Thanks for the replies. Yes the 1Gig is probably sufficient at this stage. Can one purchase further once the 1Gig is used?

Hi "ranger" the exchange has been having problems and I know that they have been moving lines around so hopefully soon all will be back to normal but during this period sadly there have been constant connectivity problems.

Yes you can top-up the 1Gig. Should you need extra - what I do when my line is not that great ...

Excellent. Thanks. I have opened an Afrihost 1Gig free account now I just need to work out how to log out from Telkom and onto the Afrihost account. Lol!!!!

You log onto your router, go to Internet settings, and enter your Afrihost username and password.

Before you do this however, make very sure you have your Telkom username and password handy, so you csn change back later. Or you will create problems for yourself later.

I know someone will complain I'm posting here... but with what adsl modem can I manage the usage of those connected to me via wifi.

Big Family about 12 strong. They love youtube a little to much.

hehehehe I know the feeling!

I have 2 kids (and one or two of their friends) who play DoTA and stream music all bloody day! Wife enjoys her Youtube videos (arts and crafts). I do the sport streaming and after hours DLs. And the DSTV explora via WiFi...

340GB in total for the month... not bad.

It's my last month on contract so will start paying full price. Currently paying R610+-
Will pay about R763 from next month.

What do guys get on the 2mbps account?

I found those sites that do openWRT and so on... but it sounds like a lot of effort.

Just looking for a retail router that can do it all. Throttle on a mac address if they hit a daily or weekly cap.

But I just cant find one.

I can do over 200GB but that's not even making full use of the nightsurfer period, only reason I got to over 200GB was because I got impatient & wanted gta5 & witcher3 like yesterday and let them run in normal hours as well. got them 2 months apart.

Most of the time I'm like 120GB for the month though.
