Yo MickeyD can you perhaps give me the correct DNS settings, i think im still using the Telkom DNS (196.43.50.190 and 196.43.42.19) what are the other DNS Settings to try, im not the happiest about my speeds for the past 2 days, been getting about 150Kbps on my Usenet downloads constantly, as opposed to the usual 200Kbps, and i schedule my SABnzb to run from 23h00 till 06h00, so i dunno why its not that awesome anymore..

Seems to be the SAIX server thats faulty, just added a back up server now, and im maxing my line...

My tracert looks similarly poor and did an extra hop too but going to the site itself was fast and speedtest is returning my usual max speed shown of 1.73MBPS (2MBPS connection) even to London (316ms ping)

So it seems to be a two day trend so far, downloads run at near line speed from about 12 at night or 1am until about 8am when shaping starts to kickin until about 6pm (give or take a few minutes) then the line just falls flat on its face until about 12pm or 1am. Like clock work, two days in a row.

Switching to an afrihost capped account makes no difference, tracert shows 7 - 11ms on the first few hops so I dont think its congestion.
But I was on mweb 2mbps premium for over a year without problems, I switched telkom 4mbps on Tuesday and now I get this issue like clock work.

Think you are having the same issues as me. Do you download torrents?

So the speed/dl behaviour is the same between afrihost & ti at those times?

Also on 4Mb uncapped here, just tested a fedora torrent and it's maxing my line:

http://fedoraproject.org/en/download-splash?file=http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/torrents/Fedora-Live-Desktop-i686-19.torrent

... try it and let us know how it performs.

Got feedback from TelkomZA. My line is fine. Which is confirmed by my tracert and speed test results. Also by the fact that the test account he provided to me ran at full speeds.

Would I be correct in assuming then, that I am simply being throttled into non-service? I get being throttled to half your speed or even a 1/4. But to have a protocol's traffic completely cut off, I think is unacceptable.

I find it hard to believe you could have downloaded enough gigs by the 4th of the month to be intentionally throttled by TI on any of their uncapped speeds, try the fedora torrent I mentioned:

http://fedoraproject.org/en/download-splash?file=http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/torrents/Fedora-Live-Desktop-i686-19.torrent

... and report back.

Doubt it. Get them to check which ISP profile you are linked to on their systems.

Yep, torrents cruise from between 12 and 1am until they finish at about 8am, when I get home at 4pm the line is still good but at 6pm something goes terribly wrong

So the speed/dl behaviour is the same between afrihost & ti at those times?

Yep, doesn't matter which isp I use.
However, if I dl from Telkom support website it goes full speed even when speedtest won't load or complete.

I logged a fault this morning and someone is supposed to phone after 6pm to do a real time test.

Did you try with a different isp?

Did you try with a different isp?

Unfortunately not. I only tried from a different test TI account provided to me by TelkomZA to do a tracert and speed test. With the test account, my internet was 100% fine. EVERYTHING. Torrents, the works. Switched back to my account, and back to square one. :-(

Just seen your post in the Razoweb thread:

... where you say you were throttled under TI's normal AUP for 1Mb uncapped in Aug & Sept. I wonder if your current situation isn't due to a TI policy which has yet to be disclosed (pity rangers overseas ATM).

Anyone else in the same position?

If this turns out to be true (which the evidence supporting), then that will be a crap "MWEB" move by telkom.
That's a debate I'm not entering into, I'm happy with my TI accounts.

Anyone know if TI will let you run 2Mb uncapped on a 1Mbps line, it could be a cost effective solution.
