There reaches a time when a Telkom official has to say something other than undisclosed problems... That point is fast approaching where the inconvenience of cancelling an account and moving to another ISP outweighs the continued lack of service delivery. As far as I am concerned Telkom Internet is out-of-stock to use a retail phrase. Yet they continue to sell the product despite having no idea when or if they will be replenished.

Anyone who believes this is anything but TI not having enough bandwidth to meet demand is an idiot. But unlike the private sector they are unable to adapt as they are hampered by service level agreement made at a time when big brother Telkom turned a blind eye to over usage. Now in a real world situation they are floundering.

Obviously judging by the posts gamers and streaming TV users are suffering but TI uncapped is still fine for my purposes with only minor hiccups around the weekend of the 4th when my VPNs were a tad slow. Browsing, torrents and other download protocols have been fine all month.

I guess SA gamers etc are doomed to migrate perpetually between ISPs in search of the (current) perfect account.

15 minutes on hold this morning and finally through to cancellations on 10210.

Have a reference number and was told 30 days notice, but the ADSL and internet department must still phone you to "confirm" your "cancellation order" ?

What's their number I ask, I'll phone them directly because I'm usually in meetings and not on standby for their call presumably from a private number.

Sorry sir, they don't have a direct number.

Tears ? Cry ?

WTF Telkom ? I phone to cancel, get a reference number, but must still stand by my phone to wait for another department to verify that I truly really honestly wish to cancel.

Ranger - TelkomZA: ref number TOC899391739

Please confirm my TI DO Uncapped premium plus has been cancelled.

Thank you.

Everyone needs to log a complaint with the consumer commission, maybe then the consumer commission will act. Hellopeter will get you nowhere.

When will we get answers???

You will not get any. ISP's are notoriously silent when it comes to bandwidth issues and in this instance an admission will showcase the complete ineptitude of the powers that be. International links and 3rd parties my @ss.

It's no easy fix either, Afrihost are still waiting for their ordered capacity to go live since October last year.

No problems here. Did 5 UK soaps totalling just over 1GB in less than an hour, started just before 07:00.

NZB's where horrible last night and this morning. Did a speed test and on my 2MB line my D/L is 0.34MB and U/L is 0.41MB.
Does Telkom throttle NZB's?

Agreed, been without an Xbox for about a 2 weeks, so i cannot comment on the gaming, but everything else has been perfect since last week Thursday for me. Had an issue with the SAIX server yesterday on my NZB's, it was running at like 4Kbps speeds, so i just topped up my Nextgen account, and it picked up to 400kbps (And this was @ about 9am yesterday morning), which leads me to believe that the Saix server is being shaped on TI...

They could be shaping the SIAX Server, see here have you tried a different news provider, i noticed this yesterday when my Nextgen provider expired, and my back up (SAIX) provider kicked in, i was getting terrible speeds, ran a speed test, and noticed my speeds were normal, so i topped up my nextgen account, and speeds went back to normal 400+Kbps...?

Try a trial with 1 of these 2, that will let you know whether or not your SAIX Server is just being shaped:

OK, so I have a capped 10mb/s account, but readers of this thread may be interested to know that my torrent downloads range from worse than pathetic to very close to dead, NZBs via SAIX are tolerable but by no means good and I can't even stream internet radio stations properly. Unless my home setup went badly wrong about two weeks ago, I don't think the problems are confined to gamers, nor are only uncapped users affected. And today I got my Telkom account.......Reaches for blood pressure pills.

I was using my powernews server and it did not expire, also got SAIX as backup but my it seems my account is throttled.
I've done 160GB on a 2MB line so far.

Traceroutes shows no signs of congestion so that leaves me to believe that my account is being shaped.
What are the tresholds on a 2MB line?
