Spoke too soon. My speedtests all turn up fine (260ms latency, 3.5mbps down internationally, 50ms latency, 3.5mbps down locally), yet my performance on Hulu, Netflix and Youtube is terrible! Buffering every couple of seconds again :/ Think they might be prioritizing data usage? Because my browsing is fine, hell even my torrents fly after 11pm, but streaming is non-existent!

We are farting against thunder ...

End March, I am going to vote with my wallet and move to Afrihost ...

They have their fair share of problems, but at least you know what is happening ...

I was using my powernews server and it did not expire, also got SAIX as backup but my it seems my account is throttled.
I've done 160GB on a 2MB line so far.

Traceroutes shows no signs of congestion so that leaves me to believe that my account is being shaped.
What are the tresholds on a 2MB line?

There isn't really specific thresholds, (non confirmed by anybody on the TI Front) but a lot of users have posted like an "Un oFFicial" Ball Park figure which if im not mistaken goes more along these lines:

1MB - About 150-160Gigs a month
2MB - About 250-270Gigs a month
4MB - About 400+gigs a month (Some people have reported close to 600Gigs on this account aswell)
10MB - Approx 1TB a month.. You get the just of it.

if your tracker shows that your usage bar is RED, then most likely you being shaped, but that usage seems abit low on a 2MB account, i'd suggest you call TI and have them check your profile, you could still be on a 1MB profile.

Just checked TI tracker now and the status bar is indicatied in red with the bar all the way to the end.
Think you are right my profile is probably set to 1MB.

Yeah, most likely when they done the upgrade from 1Meg to 2Meg they forgot to change your profile to a 2Meg profile.

Maybe better yet, change my TI internet package to the smallest, cheapest I can and go Afrihost with immediate affect ... , contractual requirements met and I get rid of my Telkom Internet Blues ...

Telkom Internet are good enough for a backup service ... , in a pinch I suppose ...

I've said it multiple times, they don't care. They have your money, so, according to them, they can take as long as they like.

They forgot to upgrade my Telkominternet as you rightly pointed out. (Don't tell anyone else, please!)

Heavy shaping going on - have plotted a graph this morning of NNTP downloads flying until around 11am then slowing down to currently just under 1/2 of line speed. (10mbit line and account, from 1,000 KB/s to 550 KB/s).

Decrease is gradual and linear, easy to spot. It's evident they're closing the tap.

Hulu non existant. The first ad will start instantly then the show will hang on buffering. Ads are on a separate CDN and clearly only the actual series video is being shaped, not the ad stream.

Shameful.

So glad I cancelled.

It's not shaping,Telkom just have no clue wtf they doing.

I need to download a simple PDF irrigation manual. It's going to be easier driving to Builders Warehouse, 10mb account, proudly brought to you by Telkom.

I think it is shaping. It is the only way to keep latency in check.

What I have found is that iTunes streaming, in general, is performing better than both Netflix and Hulu.

Must be that they've prioritised iTunes traffic.

Hello? Perhaps Telkom also got some white powder.

I am starting to think that quitting on principle might be an option at this stage. But to what end? It's just a tiny drop in a very big bucket, and where to go that's any better (or less worse, as it happens)?
