It's not shaping,Telkom just have no clue wtf they doing.

I need to download a simple PDF irrigation manual. It's going to be easier driving to Builders Warehouse, 10mb account, proudly brought to you by Telkom.

manual is still downloading (it's 25mb), I have been to builders, took a photo of the page, come back, and rewired the solenoids.

International seems to be back to normal here in Durbs.
Been cranking some xbox titles at +400kB/s.
Pulled down some linux distros at 200kB/s, thats the best daytime torrent speed I have seen in months.

Will continue to test as there are alot of "distros" I missed out on during the whole slow down.

Hope? How's Cape Town?

Completely dead for me in Cape Town.

Traceroute looks like this:

Tracing route to 196.25.1.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 1 ms 1 ms <1 ms 10.0.1.1
2 10.0.1.1 reports: Destination host unreachable.

And, according to my router, connection to Telkom is fine. And, been waiting on hold for 15 minutes to log a fault. The joys of Telkom internet... You can be assured however that I will be charged full price come billing time.

Crap service from call centre - can't even log a fault
No feedback from 'official' representatives on this forum

Argh, frustration of note. Thankfully, I can still use my Afrihost 3G connection with a few MB's left to do the work I need to.

Made my mind up, will end my Telkom Internet on Friday!!! Looking for another ISP specifically for video streaming, the lady that helped me at the call centre (10210) just told me Netflix, Hulu & Vudu is not a priority for Telkom since these services is for US public specifically and that we circumvent something that is illegal.

Err, to be honest - before TI's connectivity went to hell a couple of weeks ago - my Netflix streaming was perfect on TI. Tested it on both Afrihost and TI, and TI won the race by far. Having said that, at the moment TI ain't streaming a damn thing.

I also think the situation will stay the same with regards to Netflix and Hulu. Telkom definitely implemented something to shape / stop these services

This is true. I cancelled Afrihost for TI specifically because I could maintain a higher quality stream on TI.

Anyway, none of the ISP's officially support Netflix etc due to the various DNS services available. They do however try to for their clients sake.

What they told the poster above is just a cop-out and indicative of a call centre and service provider in a mess.

The entire internet service isn't Telkoms priority atm

I just wish they were able to give some sort of vague clue as to what's going on.

Wonder what the excuse would be for 144p not streaming on a 10mb account would be.

Yup, exactly why I switched as well. At the moment temporarily back on Afrihost - gotta say, though, Netflix is flying on AH lately too.

How much would you be able to download with afrihost on a 10mb account?

I usually do about 250, peaking on 400gb on a bad month.
