I doubt it's a routing issue as after about 12 AM everything speeds up. Weekends up until Sunday evening is alright too.

This is simply just a lack of bandwidth...

I'm in Jhb btw.

Speedtest on PS3/PS4 534kbps down and 230 up.
Unplayable. We postponed planned GT6 races up to March.

Manage to connect to Netflix just after seven on my ps3, speed still very unstable, resolution jumps from 240p to 288p to 384p,loops every 10 to 20 seconds in this sequence, very distracting and unwatchable!!!

Same here, jumps around and buffers every 10 seconds. They are definitely doing something here..

Already know where I am going, just giving it til Friday

I said gaming should have improved somewhat as of Friday afternoon. I didn't ever say Neflix was fine for everyone.

As of early this morning, BF4 should be a bit better. We were waiting for a fix from a vendor for that (specifically BF4, but may address some other games too, possibly Path of Exile, Diablo 3, possibly some general PSN problems), which was deployed early this morning.

Update: bf4 on ps4 looks better, haven't experienced the lag we got so used to. Now to sort out streaming services

Some heavy shaping going on...

When I start a download from an international server I get a huge spike up 4MB/s after a few seconds it quickly drops to sub 20KB/s. Even my speed tests rapidly reach 8Mbps but from about half way through the test it comes to a grinding halt.

Are you on VDSL? If not, 4MiB/s is seriously unrealistic. Your browser might just be reporting that as a problem. Try using something like CCleaner and clean the browsing data (CTRL+SHIFT+DEL).

US International has been VERY slow lately for just about everyone (Twitch & Netflix don't load video, and for other websites you might as well go make some coffee while you wait).

I'm sure he meant 4mb. Who has VDSL anyway :crying:

Add &egl=ZA to the end of the url. Redirects to one of Google's South African content delivery networks.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately its no better. On the plus side, for TI that is, browsing and streaming on FNBConnect is also crap. No DSLAM congestion as far as I can tell...

I don't know what's going on but I'm getting these crazy spikes. It happens with torrents as well. When uploading To Dropbox I get over 2Mbps at times.

I've downloaded a 200 MB and change file in just over a minute already.

Anyway, my US speeds barring Netflix and Hulu have been alright. I battle with speeds to the EU.

Ranger could you give us a technical breakdown of what's going wrong at the moment, feel free to get very technical and speak BGP & MPLS gibberish if so required.

Wow, glitch or one of the lucky few on 40mb?

Don't know. What I do know is that they were busy at the exchange late in December.

If the exchange is capable then I will jump on VDSL. I'll eat through the Telkom bandwidth like a lion just for putting me through this rubbish.

Make them pay

AFAIK you have to change your modem for VDSL as the normal ones only support ADSL2+
