I'm just glad I could help you to prevent this same mistake from recurring.

My laptop has taken a few serious coffee and soda hits thanks to MyBB and the Opel Monza 160i GSi CoTY 1991 :D

Thanks Bro :D

Shame, poor car, that 1.6 litre engine pulls strong, esp after 4000rpm :D

Tsk tsk tsk You make no mention of the never failing AirCon and Reserve Fuel Tank behind the seat.
You obviously have never been blessed to drive the 1991 CoTY Opel Monza 160i GSi :p

PS: Okay enough references to the mighty Monza now

BF4 had crazy lag on UK server (playing oblideration) tonight (I checked ping on a UK teamspeak server to verify and it was over 600ms)

Just out of curiosity - why play on EU? (I haven't played BF4 since November, itching to get back into it).

What kind of shaping can I expect on a fully working 4Mbps account? How is streaming and P2P? Will I get throttled if I do maybe 300GB with a 4Mbps account?

Any feedback would be much appreciated! I am getting more into streaming now and some services just aren't performing well enough.

Thanks

I haven't experienced a fully working account yet so can't speak to that. Before the troubles began a lot of people seemed to be using Netflix and Hulu pretty happily.

In terms of data usage, if you limit downloads to the SAIX NNTP server it's pretty much unlimited. Likewise if you limit other heavy traffic (like torrents) to between midnight and 6am. Outside of that time, downloads seem to count against you much more. I can't really be any more specific but see this post. Pic below to show what he's talking about.

Well currently, there are few and far between proper working TI accounts.

But if you are only interested in downloading, you will do better than the Folks who play Games - Online.

Heavy downloaders can expect full speeds between midnight and 6am, from 8am till midnight what you will get is a lucky packet, I.e. anyones guess, but you should still do reasonably well, depending on your expectations of course.

Gamers who require less capacity, but full quality connection are a bit screwed right now.

How long this situation will last is not clear, as Telkom Internet are not forthcoming with information in this regard.

I am sorely tempted to find out what series etc. Various family members and friends are watching, que everything and go for broke. Seeing as online gaming is currently almost not worth the effort.

But I am leery of creating a precedent, and the family and friends thinking, that my internet connection is available for download requests from all and sundry ...

After all, I was told that the issues have been fix, which it clearly haven't.

I'm being shaped. I tested this account at about 06:00 this morning and received full expected 4 Mbps line speeds, but every day it ends up in the 2.08Mbps region, which actually points more to throttling, since it mostly stays consistent at that speed. If shaped, I would expect it to be a bit more dynamic.

My exchange is not congested as you can see by the trace routes provided to Cape Town and the BBC.

Doubt you will get a hard follow-up article as Telkom advertises on the site.
The sad truth is the only solution to the problem Telkom have is people leaving thus reducing demand.

I am still waiting for the cancelation people at Telkom Internet to phone me to confirm my cancelation.
Basically a month of lies by Telkom Internet and no real solution in sight have forced my hand.

I had probably 15 minutes of high pings and horrible speeds last night at around 10pm.
Basically resigned myself to the fact that my line had finally fallen apart like the rest of your lines.
But as mentioned, 15 minutes later and it was flying again.

I've had the same thought regarding wanting people to leave.
I've pushed out a couple of feelers to other ISP's. Waiting for feedback and pricing and will then decide.

I have been "topping up" my Afrihost account for Gaming - if the situation does not improve, will move my main internet account to them.

We felt like playing the Obliteration mode which is not as popular as the other modes; so SA did not have a server running the game-mode at the time. We later returned to a SA server with vote and managed to get it to Obliteration the rest of the night.

We played at what I presume is peak time at around 8-9PM

Hi all, i'm new here.

Ordered TI 2mbps Uncapped about 2 weeks ago, Got the line activated a day later, collected the router and did a Self Install. Between then and Monday 27 Jan, the line speed was VERY intermittent and often no connection at all.

Registered here yesterday to PM TelkomZA and funnily enough, the line seemed fine since Tuesday night.

He replied to my PM (THNX TLKMZA) and gave me a good explanation. So I will give it another coupla weeks before I decide to stay with TI or cancel and move on.

Welcome to myBB & the Telkom thread.

I've only been here a month and TI is currently experiencing issues, but hopefully we'll all be smiling from ear to ear next month.

What explanation were you given?

Also wondering what explanation could have been given that makes having a s hit service for the next few weeks seem okay. :wtf:

I'm one of the Telkom customers with very few problems.
If your experience is anything like mine, you'll stick with Telkom.
