Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

I tried getting my TI account cancelled, after about three hours of phone calls an plenty of frustration on Friday I got no where. What numbers can I call to take this further? It is absolute bull**** that I have to keep paying for this **** service and have to wait for 20 seconds for even these myBB pages to load, gaming is impossible and has been for a month now. I would just stop paying if they weren't so quick to blacklist you...

Try Facebook, it's the only way I got a response. Although they didn't call when they said they would, so I posted once gain, and they called.

They are meant to call again tomorrow, but what are the chances?
 
Sigh I canceled my telkom adsl account but the account is still active..... Sigh

Anyways moved to @lantic fat pipe unshaped capped with uncapped bolt on. Unshaped all the way baby for only R248.

Latency is low, 200ms international. Http downloads and browsing is painful.

I wish I had another linux distro lying around...

Game was awesome :D. Few cutoffs but nothing drastic :).

Lets see how others are feeling things during later today.
 
If I signed up for a 4meg line and only get 3megs download and 0.5megs upload speed, am I not getting short-changed here? I am paying full price and getting less that 50% of the contracted line speed.

Getting 3Mb on a 4Mb line sounds about right. Therr are TCP overheads and line quality that all have to be considered.
I get around 3.4Mb on a 4Mb line.

3Mb out of 4Mb is more like 75% bud

I've found that, although they do actually respond on FB, I for one mainly get textbook answers as well. I've tried to phone them for days to hear about their Do Discount, and every time I either get cut off or I get transferred to a different dpt. So I sent a message on FB and basically got "here's a link to our Do Uncapped page. Knock yourself out". My response was less than amicable...

What about the 0.5Mbps upload. Should I not be getting close to 4Mbps upload speed? Or am I looking at this wrong?
 
Don't fret, it looks like TI are playing with the QoS again. As you say browsing is terrible, local & int, but torrents & streaming (youtube & iPlayer) are perfect.

Pretty sure they'll sort it by start of business tomorrow and upset the gamers & Netflix users again :p
As predicted performance has returned to pre-weekend standards for me but I'm intrigued by the inactivity on the thread today - have things improved for the gamers & Netflix users?

I don't want to loose the ADSL line, I just want to change ISP and and my uncapped package
Are there certain words that I must use or not use?

Don't be vague when talking to them, get them to call up your detailed account and quote the line item name you want cancelled from your invoice copy (probably Do Uncapped Premium), emphasize that you don't want your line cancelled (I'm assuming DSL Faster in your case).

I'm not sure about this 30 day cancellation clause that people are talking about, it's always been cancelled when the call centre pushes the button in the past for me (dies on the spot) so you need to make provision for an alternate ISP in advance.

Well until yesterday early evening, when a back pain and tooth ache caused me to quit gaming - it was good.

Don't stream anything, that is something that I must still get to ...

Guild Wars 2 seems great on first look. Will report back in an hour with how things go when there's a lot of people running around.
