Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

My speeds are fine during the day, but in the late afternoon onwards, speeds deteriorate and even general browsing is really sluggish. (Beacon Bay, East London)

Strangely enough I opened my Youtube app and videos were streaming just fine.

Exactly the same in Cape town on Bergvliet exchange. degrading starts around 6 -7 pm, very consistently. Kind of looks like Telkom is changing its QOS settings, downwards after prime time is over.

Same here with me, i normally have bad speed when i get home after work, yesterday i was home early (3pm) and i was streaming netflix no problem. later that night back to bad speeds.
 
I'm having the same experience as some here where service degrades after about 5 and gets progressively worse until about midnight.
 
Horrible congestion at hop 3. Sending this from Cellc since Telkom is giving me 0.74kB/s.

EDIT: seems fine now, people must have stopped streaming.


Apparently Telkom is disconnecting my area (maybe it's national idk) on Friday from 23:00 to 06:00 for upgrades -- sounds promising. A technician said a few months ago that they would be installing fiber soon :3. Does anyone know what is being upgraded? (I'm in PMB/Hilton area)

I still see a lot of people complaining on this forum but I am not sure if my issue is nationally or just my area. Is the international latency still a issue from Telkom's side?

Can anyone confirm if you need to apply for a new adsl line to be able to sign up for the Simple Uncapped package (2mb)?

The first person I spoke to said you need to be a new customer, the second told me you don't need to be a new customer but you aren't eligible for the free router. Now the lady I just spoke to says you need to be a new adsl customer to sign up.

I signed up for 2Mb at the beginning of Jan, went from a capped account to uncapped. No free router, no contract, no special offers. Just switched it on.

Do you mean Basic? I don't see Simple. Just Basic (2Mb) and Advanced (4Mb). Things are a little confusing at the moment because they're in the middle of upgrading people. Be clear that you want basic uncapped. If you say 2Mb they may well give you 4.
 
In bellville area. Downloading Elder Scrolls Online Beta pc client. Telkom 10-12 kb/s since 4 till now. @lantic, 408kb/s (max line). :erm:
 
It's just getting worse and worse. It's not even been this bad in January. WTF is going on?
 
Current tally on whether existing adsl customers are ellegible to sign up on Simple Uncapped packages according to Telkom support:

1. No
2. Yes, but no router is provided.
3. No
4. Yes, router not mentioned
5. No

They're trying to remedy the lack of capacity with patches here and there. Ever since the changes they made Saturday my line has gone for a ball of *****.

I told ranger I will see the week out but it would seem that it was mistake.
 
What would the process be for terminating the uncapped account (but not the line) with telkom. i.e. The method with the least hassles.

VERY painful.

I'm downloading Steam beta updates. A 41MB update is currently downloading at what looks like 384Kb/s speeds.

Its terribad. Once 6PM hit, it all caved in on itself. And I have another month of this before I can start looking at other ISPs.

I phoned 10120 and eventually ended up with cancellation.

I used my account to select the correct terms.

I cancelled 3 or 4 other services and I had a Do Premium or some thing like which was my uncapped data portion.

I cancelled that and made sure that they understood that I want to keep my telephone line and ADSL line active.

I was also on a 10meg profile, despite a previous call indicating I want the 2/4 meg profile, I changed that as well.
Also asked that my email accounts must be kept active.

They indicated that they are only completing a form and that someone would phone me to finalise. Also that it would serve as 30 days notice.

This happened on the 3rd. So far no call. I asked TelkomZA on twitter to help this morning.

I received a call from the twitter guys(Wesley) that wanted to check on details.

Still no call from cancellations though.

Will complete escalation form tomorrow.
Next day Hello Peter.
Will even try ICASA if Hello Peter does not yield results.
