According to the consultant I spoke to if you use more than 100Gigs in the first two weeks you are automatically soft capped.

Now I forgot to ask if you use lets say 80 gigs the first two weeks at what point you will be throttled after that.

Thanks, we don't get charged after we get warned and click on the "continue to the internet button" right?

Nope. You are soft capped, so you still have access to the Net, but speed are limited to roughly 384 kbps according to posts made here and some shaping aswell. So you should not occur any additional costs as you are paying for "uncapped" (Huge sarcasm inserted)

So I basically get 200GB at full speed on a 2mb line and then it gets shaped? Not complaining if that's the case, just need to plan better then. Probably going to hover at 100-150GB usually anyway.

That is not true. I used 36Gb in week 1, 43Gb in week two so a total of 79Gb and I am throttled. Been throttled now for close on two weeks. So either the system is not working or that consultant is speaking out of his backside....

Usage for previous week was 27Gb and for last week (starting yesterday) 5Gb. So total for Feb 108Gb and I only had two week of full service....

EDIT: Checked and added up my daily totals (for 1 to 14 Feb)

Downloaded 64.4GB - Uploaded 17.2GB - Total 81.6GB

Maybe they give 100GB/mb

Received this reply back from ASA in regards to complaint mailed to them.

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for your complaint. We have received it, and are currently in the process of capturing it on our data base, after which it will be allocated a file reference and number which you can use to track the progress if you wish.

Please keep in mind that we receive roughly 150 to 200 new complaints a month, and as a result there might be some minor delays. However, we are trying hard to give all complaints the appropriate and deserved attention. To explain our process very briefly, the first thing we do is to ensure that your complaint falls within our jurisdiction, obtain a copy of the relevant advertising and then assess this to determine whether the Directorate should formally investigate or not. As you can appreciate, this may take some time, but we hope to get back to you soon in this regard. Naturally, you are welcome to contact us and follow up at any time.

We appreciate your interest in the ASA.

This is my 1st full month on a 4mb uncapped account and speeds are excellent (420 - 550 Kb/s ave) . I have managed to download twice what I would normally download (was on 2mb) so I am quite happy. In fact I have run out of content to download since all my updates are current and I have 2 weeks worth of content to consume. I don't need the highest quality HD video there is as standard H264 720p has been fine for so long. Just that I am able to get what I want when I want faster = more than I 'need'.

I also hardly use torrents as that is the internet's no.1 culprit for wasting bandwidth. Seeding as a peer is that much more bandwidth used that should not be needed - which is why I use NNTP or filehosts ... fast and efficient full line speed downloads. I am totally happy with this product and hope it stays as it is.

Let the flaming begin... c'mon ... I know you wanna!

Well, if 1Mb users are soft-capped at 100GB, I'm also ok with it... That is 100GB at R199 P/m... Once you are done burning through the 100 GB, you have unlimited bandwidth that is throttled!

Read the fair use policy properly.

If you keep on downloading at full (throttled) speed i.e. you do not mend your ways, you will be branded as an abuser and your service will be terminated.

So if you get capped month after month they will brand you an abuser and terminate your service.

What a stupid comment to make?
Why would anyone of that make use of TI flame you if you are lucky enough to have a line that is working to its full potential?

550 KB/s avg on 4Mbps ?
Really?

It's happened before... Most people who get a speed upgrade automatically start downloading UltraHD video because they can, but still want the same amount of content. That is the trend that leads to over-usage, or usage beyond 'need'. For some reason, no-one likes the idea of responsible usage.

4mb International line speed test.

Test conducted on Tue Feb 26 20:04:42 2013

Download Speed: 4771 kbps (596.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Upload Speed: 539 kbps (67.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Latency: 318 ms

that is not really accurate since my speed fluctuates between 420 & 680 Kb/s. But is consistantly in the region of 550 Kb/s according to my network monitor stats. My line is synching at 10mbps. I did not ask for that and checked this month's invoice to make sure it was not an error. But according to my invoice, I am on the 4mbps uncapped plan.

Wow!
Those are grt speeds.
I have an exchange issue and get about 115 KB/s atm, but even when it was running well I only received 420 KB/s and I'm about 900m from exchange.

Edit:
Looking at that now, it is not 4mbps speeds is it?
You must be syncing higher?

When my line was first upgraded from 2mbps to 4mbps, I was synching at 4mbps. After a reboot a week later, I noticed I was synching at 8mbps. After a reboot beginning of last week, my line synchs at 10012 downstream and 1023 upstream. It's wrong, but is right in so many ways:D My exchange is also not so populated. The exchange I am connected to is from a not so privileged suburb where ADSL is a very rare commodity.
