If we all just knew what the magical number was we could manage our usage or decide to go elsewhere.

I still think that the 4Mbps offering is pretty decent. +-350GB the throttle.

Agreed if it were that simple but I suspect TI are using other criteria to define "abusers" - 24/7 downloading at full line speed for example can lead to exchange congestion so I suspect that individual users are being targeted based on the manner they use bandwith as opposed to quantity.

I think we would all like some clarity on the issue to know where we stand to dispel the nagging doubts, I've done 280GB on 4Mb this month without a problem - yet :)

Edit: but February is a short month :whistling:

Indeed. I took this account to check it out. Switched to hd only and found out it was holding up well so I have to give that to them. I just think maybe I should consider webafrica or axxess. I am leaning more towards webafrica atm.... IS is a rock solid backbone and their accounts are pretty well priced now I have to say.

axxess were great until they moved to the MTN backbone last Nov, I cancelled my uncapped with them before that first month was up it was so bad. Can't comment on the current state of affairs with their uncapped (their capped R19/GB is OK) but, if the Afrihost thread is anything to go by, it seems there are still problems.

I still think that the 4Mbps offering is pretty decent. +-350GB the throttle. Its a sizable amount for R369 but yes its not uncapped so you have to choose shaping from other isp's or relatively good speed with ti until you hit that magical number.

Decisions..... Axxess vs Telkom vs Webafrica......

Its not 350Gb, I got throttled at 312Gb.

NO one knows what the throttling is, and how it works - because it hasn't been comminicating, its pointless speculating as we don't even know when they started monitoring.

well the guy i spoke to said that doing 170+ gigs this month is one of the reasons i am getting high pings/ latency.
if this was the case i wouldn't be able to be downloading at full speed right now on my line

this is utter nonsense.

"The bandwidth consumption on your uncapped account has reached a stage whereby it is having a negative impact on the general performance of our network. In terms of the Telkom Internet Acceptable Use Policy, your account will be managed in a manner that allows us to optimise network efficiency for all users." - msg from telkom

Best isp!

Damn...I'm now at 10kb/s. thanks again Telkom for stuffing up a great product, considering I've been promised feedback multiple times by them, and nothing is forthcoming... I'll be canceling tomorrow,

If you think of it, everybody on uncapped paid more for the service only now to be returned to what we had before....

Yes, yes.... we are only capped now on 100 to 200GB etc.. where previously it was a measly 10, 20 or 30gb. But still.... we are back where we were a year or two back....

So much for progress

Please note that our uncapped products adhere to the ISPA definitions of 'uncapped'

BS!

There is NO way that ISPA will allow a uncapped product to have a HARD cap. And I have been hard capped. On an Uncapped product! No matter to which URL I went, I were redirected to a TelkomInternet page. That is hard capped.

Fortunately for me it only happened with 3 days left in the month, and like many of your other clients, I have moved on and are no longer a client of TI.

I was hard capped for a lot less than 350GB on my 4mbps uncapped account!
