and for a 4mb uncapped? I currently use about 200GB on Mweb, but their service on the "Premium" account is really poor lately, not worth the price.

for 4Mbps its about +-350GB some people got shaped at 320GB so its around there. I find the uncapped account to be great actually. Wow yes there is throttling after x amount and that sucks for some people but up until that point you get great speeds....

I can easily max my line now with anything or I can play league of legends with 210ms ping during the day. Its great to be honest it feels like a 350GB capped account with full speed until you hit that throttle limit. I have not managed to hit it though so I can't comment on what hapens after that limit is reach but other people have so they can tell you what its like.

Great, time to kick Mweb into touch.

Is anyone else having problems with there news server. With saix my speed is jumping from 50KB to 250KB and I'm on a `1meg line so I should only be getting about 100KB.

Not so much an issue, it is buffering bits of info and then releasing it as it goes.

Try dropping your connections to the server from 2/4 > 1 and see if it does the same thing. Although i wouldn't worry about it.

You can think of it like when in IE or similar, you click a download link and wait a few seconds before clicking on SAVE and see the speed jumps to 1MB/s on a 512k line :whistling: .

Anyone else getting disconnects? Like ISP disconnects? Not Router?
I got a couple (between 12:40 and 1:30) and changed my ISP account to another and still happened. Now it is fine. I assume this is the rare case where it was Telkom and not the ISPs fault

This thread has basically gone dead again, so all (or mostly) must be good.

Anyone soft capped yet?
On that point:

I have had line speed issues with my 4Mbps line the last 8 -10 months.

I basically got 0.2 -0.7 ito dl speed and upload was at about 0.32.

My line was fixed on Monday and had full speed again during Monday and Tuesday and then it died again.
When I tested with another ISP it still was giving full speed, so I knew something was up with TI.

I contacted TI and hey told me that I was on Telkom Basic (1meg). I denied and said I was paying fot the Premium (4Mbps) package and
While on the phone, I checked my last account and saw that for some reason I was indeed paying for the Basic package.
They changed it and got full line speed again.

The point though is that I was on a 1Meg package last month and I did 109 GB for the month in total and was never soft capped.
The bulk of that would be for gaming updates on 2 PS3s and lots of online gaming and SuperSport streaming and pC drivers.
I did 1 torrent to check line speed.

That is above the 100GB the guys are mentioning for 1Meg lines?

Hey guys, I am on a 4mb uncapped service and wanted to know more or less what performance you guys are getting.

When downloading via HTTP, PTP or NNTP it will always be stable at around 236KB/s on all those protocols.

When I was with Afrihost, it would always be stable at around 403KB/s.

Is this the general experience people are getting?

If so, I need to cancel and move on again.

Thanking you for your responses.

That looks like what you would get running a 2Mb uncapped account on a 4Mb line. Before he went on leave Ranger said there had been problems with the wrong speed uncapped accounts being opened.

You should have the following items on your Telkom itemised billing to run 4Mb uncapped:

DSL Fastest - R372.81

TI DO Uncapped Premium - R323.68

A bit off topic, but I know there are a lot of guys that would be able to help me.

It seems that someone that stays in our flat in our back yard are watching Full length movies via YouTube in the evenings.
This seems to impact on my PS3 gaming.

My question though.
I see talk of Http, NNTP, P2P, etc downloads and that ISP frown on some of the methods.
I'm not sure what the difference are between the various methods.
Would this Youtube method be a method that are not welcomed?

Hey MickZA,

Mine says:

DSL Fastest - R372.81
TI DO Uncapped Advanced - R218.42

Thanks, it looks like you are 100% correct.

Will call when I get home. Hopefully they don't take 10 years to answer.

You were getting 403KB/s at afrihost and you left?

Yes, that was before the MTN move. After that everything went for a ball of excrement.

I tried PLUGG, and was getting about 421KB/s stable if I remember correctly. That was a dream. It seemed completely unshaped. But now I am after price, then performance, otherwise I would be with PLUGG.
