Telkom Internet Uncapped User Feedback.

Jip I have a very stable line and rarely have issues, but this morning things are not running smoothly.

Ping tests vary between A - D grade. It is always A grade for local and mostly B grade for international.



My exchange is not congested although the 2nd hop is already high.

I also thought about the congested saga, but my router lit up like a disco ball when I tried my IS trail.
I'm new to Telkom but I haven't seen any similar reports prior to my signup.
hope it's once off

I remember Ranger mentioned that they had a capacity issue which only affected the Western Cape region, I wonder if this has been addressed already?
 
Telkom I am switching to your 2mb uncapped from next month I hope you don't disappoint.
 
Testing with another ISP via PPPoE connection seems to yield better results ito ping test, but trace routes to Cape Town and Rosebank are still a weird.

Called telkom today re an account issue and while speaking to the Options guy he gave me a 25% discount on my dsl fastest line rate, catch is you have to sign up for a year... No problem as I intended to keep my line with telkom anyway. Score.

I haven't looked back since switching to Telkom. The SO and I use the same account simultaneously (both lines on my name) and we get full line speed almost 24/7. With the previous ISP she was not used to getting 190kb/s at 1.30 pm on p2p.

Although my ping to EU is about 50ms higher, I'm having a better experience gaming online. No more rubberbanding and lag spikes:thumbup:

Ugh.

My gaming experiences are normally Good to Okay. I play FPS and GT5 via PS3.
My tests seems okay again. I'm close to PE.





Maybe try to PM Ranger or if you use Twitter, follow @TelkomZA. They were pretty sharp the last time I used them, although I think they work office hours on that account.

I was considering upgrading to 4 MB uncapped. Saw your post and decided to call telkom. Big saving. Ended up being same pricing as the 2 Mb uncapped line. Thanks man.

Even if I'm shaped for abuse I'll be slowed to a 2 mb line speed.

Also Call centre mentioned its only for long term (chronic :)) customers of telkom who agree to a 1 year ISP contract. Didnt know sticking with Telkom has so many benefits. Scored free router and now huge saving. Been with them more than 3 years

Email username and copy paste the text from a command prompt from aping with at least 20 requests (e.g. 'ping -n 20 ip.add.re.ss' on Windows) and a traceroute ('tracert ip.add.re.ss' on Windows) to the game server in question to [email protected] . You should receive a ticket number by auto-reply, PM me the ticket number.

Hey Romark, I have pm'd ranger with my traceroute and everything a few days ago, but nothing. My speeds on telkom is so slow, i honestly cannot even browse. And, I keep on getting disconnected about 4 or so times a day, so not sure what that is about. Thank you very much for your offer. I also have a 1gig account with AH, that I actually now topped up just in order to be able to browse.

Telkom has bad gaming latencies unless you choose business uncapped or a capped product.

Some aspects of your statement may have been true until January.

As of February, all gaming receives the same (highest) priority.

However, prioritisation doesn't guarantee low latency, and there may be easy fixes (as with latency from our users in the Western Cape to MWEB gaming servers, which was due to a routing problem between SAIX and MWEB). However, without any detail (e.g. destination, or a traceroute to the destination) easy fixes are impossible.

I agree. I should have been more accurate. Gaming on Telkom is great however if you into twitch gaming or if that 100 ms matters to you than Telkom isn't it. I don't know much technical aspects however just commenting from a customer perspective on uncapped product and gaming.

We are looking at this. It has taken some time to rule out some possible causes. Since they have been ruled out, we need to find the right process to get problems investigated on the other side of the chinese wall ...
