Damn I missed the entire Apple event tonight! Was trying from 18:00 to get a 240 mbps stream running on Twit.... International is totally poked

This is what's keeping me at an arm's length from TI!

Random issues cropping up out of the blue!

This final issue (ensuring there is sufficient SAIX international bandwidth to suffer a primary international link failure) should be resolved soon, there has been a lot of work being done in the background, but it will take a few more weeks to finalise.

Of course, other providers have had their fair share of extended international outages due to a single international link failure.

We have been investigating.

Apparently there is work being done on the Durban to Amsterdam link, affecting all SAIX customers.

According to the notification it shoild be fixed by midnight.

Why dont you guys make yor scheduled work & faults public?

Thanks ranger, hopefully the incoming traffic from new game launches won't be impacted :D from next week (GTAV) :p.

Atleast pump us more bandwidth until tonight as i want to watch that I5s/c videos please :)

These are SAIX's notices, afaik they are accessible to the public, they were available on the forum, but somethong broke that. In the last few months the volume of notices has increased (possibly for better reporting of DSLAM issues for other ISPs) to the point where it it impossible to find a major outage in the noise of about 100 notices a day.

The SAIX notice was sent at 18h00.

Yes, we need to make the pertiment info available to our customers more easily, but that brings up many issues that impact many areas outside our influence at this stage.

It will be quicker for us to ensure this kind of failure doesn't impact you than to get a decision on which portal should make failure information available.

Good, knowing now makes it ok.

We implemented some mitigation on our side, but demand is probably dropping off now too. This would impact P2P speeds in favour of other traffic.

I was previously getting 200kbps intl speedtests on my personal 2Mbps uncapped, now getting 1.73Mbps.

All the issues you mention are related to the SAIX ADSL product, where all service control and accounting is over RADIUS, and no longer relevsnt to us since February.

Yeah...but since Feb I've been on uncapped anyways so that nightmare is behind me.
I really wish local caps had been concurrent though, or at least if you could have offered some sort of way to flip over to them like perhaps a separate login or something. It was utterly ludicrous that local usage would use up the international cap same as everything else back then and that it could only be used once the international was all gone.

Although admittedly it didn't help that every other .co.za site is actually hosted in Germany, Holland, UK or USA.

But hey, all that stuff is behind us now that I'm on proper uncapped and Telkom has started soft-capping.

I must just say the following, I was on TI uncapped 1mb about 4 months ago, and it was @$$% I then moved to mweb, what an mistake, then moved back to Telkom middle of last month 2 the TI uncapped 2mb, and I must say, the speeds are great and my green bar just started to show on almost 80gig's. I do normal browsing during the day, and my p2p downloads from 10pm to 6am. Telkom has improved, and I like it.

@Ranger or anyone else that is in the knowing.

My P2P downloads are normally scheduled between 00:00 - 06:00 during the week.
What about weekends though? Is it free reign during weekends or are the preferred hours of P2P downloads still late night/early morning hours?

You will note we didn't make NightSurfer from 18h00 to 06h00. We do not have significantly lower utilisation outside business hours, and Sunday evenings is for example one of our peak times (along with weekdays during 'prime time').

So, no, Night Surfer is *only* 00h00 to 06h00, even on Saturdays and Sundays.

Okay.
Thx for the speedy reply.
