Bellville, Cape Town - horrible speeds for the past few days.

Torrent speeds on uncapped are non-existent today and poor on TI capped as well, seems the shaping is a tad overboard ATM (maybe TI's trying to shake off the MWeb "abusers" that moved over ).

Will you be paying any more on your monthly bill for the data now that you've gone from 2 to 4 ? I called 10210 last week, and one consultant said "no", while today, I called in for a port reset and asked the same question and was told "yes". I saw on the Telkom ADSL checker that it lists my current speed as "4", but I'm still on 2mb according to my router.

I don't have any request stating this via mail or post, so if TI decides to ask more of me month end for the upgrade, they got another thing coming, because i did not ask for the "FREE" upgrade, but, jokes aside, i don't think it will be extra.

Separately the price stays the same but the bundle discount is being discontinued. I.e. there is no benefit to taking a bundle rather than the line and data separately. It works out to a few tens if you had a bundle.

Oh, I see.

LOL. I thought they have all moved to Afrihost?

This ^^

Bundle discount gets dropped.

My point is, it would have been fair if everything else got the advantage from this...

Gaming is *supposed* to be one of the beneficiaries of:
-the policy to not take traffic from 00h00 to 0h600 into account when assessing fair usage on uncapped
-Zero rating of NightSurfer on capped
-Shaping policies that prioritise latency-sensitive traffic over real-time (e.g. streaming) over P2P

If gaming is bad during peak or prime times, either:
-The congestion isn't with us
-You should log a ticket with the details (at least a traceroute to the game server's IP) so we can investigate.

I have yet to receive any feedback from TelkomZA since I logged a complaint last night, so basically I know I'm going to be frustrated with my internet again. How the hell do you play any games with 600ms :(

As for torrents or Usenet, Electric HOW do you get max 24/7??? I have joined 1st November, and have yet to see anything downloading faster than 160KB/s in the evenings on saix (during the day I see its basically running 15KB/s max), and torrents are sh&t the whole time.

You didn't provide your account speed, on 2Mbps, 160kB/s isn't too bad ...

We aren't on the SAIX 'ADSL Backbone', though we use 'SAIX' for internet breakout.

We would need more detail to investigate poorly performing torrents, but do realise that international bandwidth is more expensive (at least for us), and bittorrent is quite demanding on international (much more than Youtube or game downloads or software updates), mainly because South Africans are leechers and not seeders :-/

Okay so to summarise:
TI can't afford international bandwidth anymore, so no more torrents during 07:00 - 00:00.
Even 00:00 - 06:00 is lately iffy.

I can't get Youtube to run on 144p, without buffering issues every 15 seconds.
My download speed does not exceed 326kB/s on http - general driver downloads, etc.

Gaming ping in general up to **** according to other posters.

TI account almost use less beteeen 18:00 and 23:00 and no, my exchange is not congested.

This is my experience on my 4 Mbps line the last few weeks.

Edit:
Torrent speeds seems to be better for me this morning.

That sounds horrible. How much is the data for 4mbs uncapped after the adjustments?

Not sure. I haven't followrd the latest upgrades, as my area does not support 10Mbps and probably never will. So unfortunately I don't have a clue regarding the new prices.

Torrents are dead slow but big thanks to Bash for providing a solution ;)
On the other hand HTTP downloads have been flying! http.JPG
YouTube streaming has been great, NNTP averaging aroung 75-80% of line speed.

I guess I can live with the low torrent speeds as long as the rest of the protocols continue to perform like this.

Torrents seem to be back to normal (good) speeds this morning.

Torrents are working great after complaining for a whole month. Persistence pay off!

Wish I could say the same, torrents have been very erratic for me lately. Had a great weekend with torrents performing as in the days of old.
Come Monday and they crawling, barely getting above 25kB/s.
