I don't know where East London goes, if you give a traceroute, I can tell you. But, if East London goes via our 'South' PoP, we are experiencing some problems there and working on getting it back to what it was like yesterday ...

hey ranger,

Having a really terrible first day back with TI. Couldn't download via news host. Then tested my Afrihost 1gig free acount and got full speeds using their news server. Then when I switched back to my telkom account it did connect and seemed to work ok. Was getting about 250KB/s. But I only managed to download around 200mb from around 2pm until now. Now nothing is happening. But a check back on Afrihost and all is well on their network. Browsing seems fine and youtube ok. Http downloads around 200KB/s. For those who want to know, I am on a 4mb uncapped account.

Hooray - Mweb premium got the port reset and I'm up again.

Seems Telkom thought anyone who had issues must have been related to their TI problems.

From hop 5 to 7 you are going from Belville to Rosebank. Light takes 4.3ms to travel the distance, a reasonable latency for packets to travel both directions is 20ms. So, this aspect probably won't get much better.

What latency are you getting to your servers in CT?

Here you go kind sir.

Then I thought it might just be higher to Mwebs CT network as our Hetzner Server is about 12-13ms on telkom. But nope. Some are 10ms, other over 30ms. Clearly there is some sort of routing thats buggered.

Seems INT latency the routing is also buggered. On avg I get 100ms more to INT servers when using Telkom.

Anyone have any experience with the new Telkom uncapped packages and how they are holding up with throtteling and shaping? Can you pull a few gb a day or does it give problems?

On a 2MB Telkom ADSL Line with 15GB (+1GB) Capped Afrihost account. Thinking of getting a Telkom Uncapped Account (2MB Bundled). I only download (HTTP & P2P) on weekends but not much. Getting the full speed is very important to me especially for surfing and streaming YouTube videos.

Can anyone tell me:
1. Will I get full speed (for web, email, YouTube, etc) all the time?
2. Can I download (mostly on weekends) up to 50GB (HTTP & Torrents) per month without my speed (for above) being affected at all?

I'm not an extreme user by any means and my line have been a bit rubbish the last 5 - 6 months, but since moving to uncapped things have improved for me.

I think it is a bit difficult to judge at this stage as Telkom was/are working on the lines.

I have 2 playstations downloading at the same time with 2 x 15GB updates, 2 x 6GB updates and various 4GB + demos and trailers.
I watch a lot of youtube videos and supersport streaming.

I haven't noticed anything that resemble throttling or shaping, but it is not that easy to detect it on PS3 updates.
Mostly my streaming and Youtube videos are running smothly.

There have been times when it did not go well, but it was in periods where ppl were in general complaining about slow browsing, downloading, etc.
I don't really download torrents, nbz, etc

I'm more than happy atm with the service I'm receiving, given that there is a learning curve to be expected with all the changes.

Ever since yesterday my torrents are very heavily shaped. At the moment I am getting 2.5kbps down

Previously I was getting 180+ (2mb line)
