Someone mentioned that in about 2/3 months time we will no longer be needing Telkom Lines to have ADSL at home. Do any of you know if this could be true, or just another rumour? I believe South Africa is the only country that still make use of Telkom lines for ADSL :wtf:

You would still need an analogue line and you would still be billed for it.
Telkom will change the way they display billing (trying to offer more value than competitors), but you would still pay for it.

That is true. You can already order your ADSL line from any service provider and they will manage it on your behalf. However the physical line will be owned and installed by Openserve, a division of the Telkom Group.

Well, in South Africa you currently have to use the Telkom Group's lines if you want ADSL, yes. This is due to no other service provider being willing to build their own copper access network.
