Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Ok further info is the new box is already out BUT availability depends on how quickly Telkom get it to their stores.
ALSO; the new remote is NOT included it will work on the bluetooth enabled units and will be sold separately

Sorry - Maybe I wasn't clear.

The new batch arriving right now in country tight now (ie not in the Telkom stores yet, but will be in a few weeks, hopefully) does have Android 8.0 and the new voice remote. It is, however, available (in a few days) separately to buy.

Annoying that the early adopters, now have to pay seperate for the voice remote.. It should have been implemented from the get go.

Ah ok. This info I gave was from the company hemselves Nology. Will be good if the remote is included.

ah so it has stopped serving the mac address in the XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX format. which is what my router takes.

how do i convert the fexx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx to XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX?
You can't. The MAC is the manufacturers identity given to the device with a range of other numbers. The IP is separate from this.

Do you need the mac for security reasons or other?

not particularly

it's that i like to assign certain devices on my network specific IPs. so for instance when i wanted to sideload by adb before the upgrade, i had it assigned as 192.168.1.104.

my router says it reserves dhcp in the other format

fexx::xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx is actually the private IPv6 ip address. Now it can either include the MAC address, or its the random private ip address, in which case it will not include the mac address. The MAC is still in the XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX format. Perhaps you need to show us a photo of what you looking at.

You can still assign specific IP to the box. The router will usually be configured for dhcp but within a range I.e. 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200. Anything before 100 and after 200 is available. OR you can reserve an IP or IP range to use on devices as static IPs. I usually use IPS before 100. Like my CCTV DVR is .10 and cameras are 30 to 40 range. Network mask usually 255.255.255.0

What exactly was their wording?

A07 (July 2017) onwards are all identical LIT units - they all have the IR window and a Bluetooth chip on the box itself
A07 (July 2017) - B05 (May 2018) have IR remote only, but can take the new *Bluetooth remote

*The new Bluetooth remote is actually a hybrid and will be both Bluetooth and IR. I think that's what is meant :)

@Dolby
This is what i got:

Hi Sean

Any model with serial number containing A07, A11 an B05 onwards will have Infra-Red and Bluetooth. The B10 will be the latest release.

If you can't wait just make sure they don't give you an A06 as they do not support Bluetooth.

Regards

Eddy

ALSO i was at the Telkom shop at the Hub and they have received a new shipment of LIT boxes. I gave them the info in terms of serial number i.e. B10 and B11. SHe said i can come back around 13:30 - 14:00 and she can hel me as they have not yet opened the box.

To give some feedback in this forum: I took my box to Nology yesterday and was sorted out in no more than 45 minutes. Great and friendly service from the guys over there! If you ever run into FW upgrade issues simply forget about Hellkom unless you still qualify for a replacement.
One issue I came across after the Oreo upgrade is mouse functionality. The pointer will move upwards by itself irrespective of the mouse used. Any idea how to fix this?

The mouse on my remote still works normally after the upgrade. Maybe a re-pairing exercise will help.

Hold thumbs. I will go to the telkom shop in about an hour. I HOPE they have the new one in the new stock delivery they got

He's right ... the new ones (with this included remote) have landed and been delivered.

But it takes far longer to get them to the stores than a day or two ... you're probably looking at weeks to get into the stores. Just to scan them into the Telkom system and get the paperwork will probably take a week or so.
