I was in 2 telkom stores yesterday. None of them can exchange the box in store even though it was tested and confirmed broken and the box only 3 weeks old. Their “policy” is to send it to head office, attempt to fix it and if they can’t, only then send a replacement to the store it was handed in at. This process takes 21 to 28 days according to both stores. I almost bought another Lit box a week ago to replace my Apple Tv downstairs. Im glad I didn’t.
Ordered 2 mibox’s last night. Will use this piece of crap in the kids play room when it eventually gets returned.
The quicker I can get away from all telkom related the better.

Hi mate, just wanna find out does the MiBox support DSTVnow? I just want a android tv box to use DSTVnow on my TV so which one would you recommend?

Apologies if this has been asked before - do i need to have a telkom internet product to be able to use the LIT Box?

As i have Mweb LTE at home and will get the Mibox if i cannot use the Telkom LIT box......

Can somebody please confirm for me :)

You can use the Litbox... No issues.
 
Which box would be the better buy as i see from the posts they are both 1099

Mibox doesnt have Ethernet and is android 6.0, but has a quad 2.0ghz processor vs

the LIT box which is a quad 1.5ghz processor and android 7.1.1 and an ethernet port?
 
In my opinion there is no "best"... only best for you and your needs

I suggest you get a good idea of what your requirements are, then take the time to look at the capabilities of each device and then decide for yourself.

Raw specs alone dont necessarily make a box better than another

The lit box works for me cos:
1. I got it free with my telkom contract
2. DSTV streaming (especially sports)
3. I DONT need netflix (which it doesnt support in HD, I think the MiBox does)
4. It was free
5. its a nice free upgrade for minix neo u1 , which there is nothing wrong with, except that DSTVNow doesnt work on it.

Hi Slimmjimm.

Yes it does. As far as which one I personally recommend I can not 100% say at this stage as I am waiting for delivery of the Mibox.
It should arrive on Friday latest Monday. I will give feedback once I have used it for a week or so.
I always had my eye on the mibox and definitely leaned more towards the mibox but I was impatient and bought the lit box instead.
I must be honest that I was very dissapointed with the whole process. Just A bad experience. Stood in a telkom line for more than an hour to just buy the box. Made me sign how many papers just to buy the box cash (no contracts). Got home, hooked up the box and found there was no netflix (without sideloading and not a great experience) and no voice control. Both things that work with mibox out of the box. Then the lit box went faulty and to top it all off telkom store refuses to swop it out for an in store unit without sending the box to head office to try and fix it first even though the box is only 3 weeks old. Returned it with slip, in original box packaged the same way as I got it. Again all of this after standing in a queue for 34 min. I just want to buy a product that works as expected out of the box without tinkering and wasting valuable time trying to make the thing do things I want it to do. Also the reason why I am just fedup with apple tv. Always tinkering, jailbreaking, sideloading apps via xcode, airplaying from ipads and iphones because of missing apps in the app store etc. My needs are simple. I just want Netflix, showmax, dstv now, youtube, yotube kids, plex, spotify and decent voice control on the device. My LG “smart tv’s” do all except spotify, dstv now and plex is a joke. The apple tv does not have spotify (yet), no dstv now. The lit box has all the apps except for netflix (without sideloading), voice control and then just the bad experience to deal with Telkom. I constantly have guests sleeping over, a wife and a kiddie in the house to also think about and all of this sideloading, airplaying and tinkering just makes my life harder at the end of the day trying to make the other devices work for everyone. Thus the reason for the mibox. It does all of the beforementioned out the box, easy enough to use, costs the same as the lit box and a hell of a lot cheaper than the apple tv 4k. Also online support makes it a bit easier. You jump onto youtube or online and there is stuff about the mibox all over.

what exactly went faulty on your litbox?

The Hdmi port on my A011 lit box failed. They refused to exchange the unit in store. Went to 2 different stores. Employees sound like trained robots. “Sorry sir, it’s Telkom policy”. They sent the unit to head office to first see if Someone can “fix” the unit.
Only then if that fails they will send a replacement unit to the store for pick up. Apparently this process takes between 21 and 28 days.
Can you please give feedback about your experience after you go into a store?
