Telkom LIT Android media box - Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

How do you use a IR remote with a Lit box?
I have the perfect IR remote to use with it from an old WD Live media box and I can see the Lit IR led is flashing when I press a button but I have no idea what next to make it do commands.

Here's a pic of the remote

@dolby is it possible to the ir remote from my xiaomi phone? I tried the xiaomi app with all the listed devices and a few of them worked but not 100%. Anyway to get the correct info to forward to xiaomi? Still have to check if the Logitech remote will work.

I am using an One for All IR remote with the LIT box, basically programmed the buttons using the original remote.

If I read your post you want to re-use your WD remote on the LIT box. Either you need a way to re-programme the WD remote or a way to put some software on the LIT box that can interpret the signals from the WD remote.

Somehow i dont think both options are going to be easy to come by or possible. Maybe i dont get your question?

You will have to write your own driver with the correct scancodes for the buttons and then build your own kernel for the that WD ir remote to work. Also Telkom doesn't release the kernel source code since it's not allowed for Google Certified devices, so you can't do it.
Buy a cheap airmouse from Gearbest or locally when the lock-down is over.
Some airmouse remotes even have ir remote learning so you can program the power button too or you can use an app like Button Remapper to map any key to power off. Ir Remotes on Android media players are always horrible to use, that's why airmouse remotes were invented.

I didn't realise the original lit remote was IR as well, so theoretically you can only use the native ir scancodes/commands of the original remote and that's it?

Are all the functions of the remote sent by IR?

I thought it was Bt only and so I never point it at the lit box when pressing the buttons and it's worked perfectly thus far

So those are programmable, I can point the original remote at it and program each key on the One for all?

If you look at the IR area on the remote with your phone camera, every button press shows a red led light up.

Yes. just point the original remote and program the one for all.

You can programme different functions on the same remote. So i have my TV, DSTV, and Lit box all programmed on the same One for All device.

It must be sending on both Ir and BT because I checked now and the remote works whether it's pointed at the box or totally hidden from it?

Wonder how we can program a play/pause and skip forwards/backwards command to an IR remote because that's what the stock remote is missing.

The play pause button is the centre button on the stock remote.

Skip forwards and backwards, you use the ring around the centre button, push left for skip backwards, right to skip forwards.

It does not work anymore, they took that out in the last update to android 8, it was working on 7 with my harmony remote. The only way to get it to work is to edit the keyboard.xml file on the box and for that you need to root the device. Haven't had any luck with that.

Thanks, I know that functionality but I want dedicated buttons that send the desired command instantly.

That's weird, wonder why they did that.
The media control keys on Logitech cordless keyboards work with the Lit Box, you plug the USB receiver into a USB port, works well if a little big but then you also get a nice full sized keyboard to type

Does anyone know how to do a search/send/ok command with an external keyboard, for instance in search boxes after you type I haven't managed to work out how to actually run the search, only way is to have the on screen keyboard showing and then go press the send button on the right on screen. Its pretty annoying, I'd love to find a way around it.

Yes as I have said.
Root the lit box OS ( to pass this step is the issue)
Edit the config file in the system to include the new commands
Done

Need some help. I'm not getting any sound when watching movie from hard drive via LIT box, using Archos or VLC. Getting sound on YouTube from LIT box via same stup. Movies have sound on PC.

Any ideas?
