Hi

Well seems our router is now fried :( cause when i switch it on the usb and internet light just keeps flickering, does anyone know why this happens?

A little history: Last night I kept getting disconnected from the internet although the internet light would be on i would not be able to browse and eventually after the how manieth restart of the router the router kept flashing those lights...

I have no idea what to do? and i don't have money for a new modem...

Well i do have a old ADSL modem but it takes easily 15mins to connect (and then disconnects when we pick up the phone)

maybe reflash the bios, if not phone telkom they will test it and if you lucky give you a reference number which you take to your telkom shop and swop the modem.

Hey...if you can not connect to the modem then it is definitely messed. Have you tried the 10.0.0.2?

You should call Telkom to get them to test and then give you a reference number to swop. However I am not crazy about the ADSL router and you can possibly get a way better router for a few hundred rand, that lasts longer and has better quality of service.

i changed the router to 192.168.1.254 but also changed my pc to 10.0.0.24 and tried to connect to 10.0.0.2 but it gave me nothing...

Can you recommend a nice router? since it looks like i will have to get a router now...

You can get a router at Incredible or Matrix for a few hundred. I use SMC, but I really really really love Netgear and if you can get Netgear I would say you scored gold. I dunno if they offer Netgear though, maybe ask them to order it for you though. And btw I am not a paid representative for Netgear! Hehehe

Hey Peder,

I've got a 105WR with the exact same problem. Just stopped working one day. I cannot recall exactly which lights flash all the time, but it sounds exactly the same as you - I'll switch it on tonight and have another look.
I tried everything to connect to it. Reset, fixed IP, auto IP, hardwired, wireless, you name it, nothing worked. I've also tried using the recovery utility but due to not being able to make a connection with the router, this also does not work.
It's a little over the warranty period...
Will Telkom be interested in swapping if it's out of warranty? If so, what's the procedure?
And if they won't swap it out, what service do they offer to restore it at a cost?

Even better, anyone got a sales slip for a Mega 105WR that's within 1 year old? If so, please PM me so I can just get a swap out easily :)

Well the ADSL modem that i am using now( a oldish one) takes very long to connect for some or other reason and i reported it so the technician gave me his which is the 105wr...

Maybe i should phone them again and maybe the tech will give me a new modem again??

I donno

Yeah, just switched it on. USB and internet lights just flash continously. if you find a solution, please do let me know.

i will... i'm as stumped as you

I read here a little while ago that a possible solution is changing the power supply. I just tried 2 other telkom 9v power supplies and got the same results. It might be worth a bash for you though.

i tried a little transformer and it gave me nothing even on the right polarity... although i wish i had another transformer right now...

Another thing is i think it might be due to load shedding cause our power was fluctuating allot lately

I doubt it. I had this router connected via a UPS output that was surge, backup and lightning protected - I protect the phone and network cables in a similar way. Faults caused by power problems should not be the cause in my case.

I think the bottom line is that these are really cheap and nasty routers. I've had Telkom techies at my house as well as the guys at various Telkom outlets all say the same thing...these Mega 105WR's are the worst modem Telkom have ever stocked. This one is my 3rd or 4th...I can't really remember now. Last week I bought myself a Billion router (non Telkom) and am very happy with it.

actually to tell you the truth thise 105wr is quite a sticky modem, it was from the first time i got it, needs almost a daily reset especially if you are using bridge connections and also wireless...

Hey Peder,
I managed to get an exchange unit. I got one of the new Netgear ones. I'd suggest pursuing the exchange route. Good luck.
