Telkom mega modem faulty?

Recently my ADSL line has stopped working, I logged a complaint with telkom but they're not being very helpful.

Thing is that the line will sync and connect then after a few minutes the line will just die out but If I reset or restart the router the line works fine for a while then just dies again...

So I'm wondering could this be a sign that the router is slowly dying? it's not able to keep a connection up or something?
 
It could be either the line or the router. The easiest way to be sure is to try the line with another router.

I have a similar problem, whenever it thunders my line disconnects :/

Thing is that means I'll have to buy a router, but after switching off the router for a while it seems to be ok now, could be the router, probably got too hot....

The cheapest router for my needs would be R700 :(
 
NO! STOP!
Don't spend money on a router, just bring your old one back to the Telkom shop and have them give you a new one. If at all possible put it back in the original box and include the receipt.
 
That would mean getting another useless mega router, rather get something decent...

The line is dead again btw.
 
Darn this, I'm really pissed off at this, the router probably has nothing wrong with it because it comes online after a while. I need a router to test but damn this is annoying... Bandwidth wasted.
 
When you say the line dies, do you mean it loses sync or only your internet stops working? I had similar problem, phoned telkom to reset my port, flushed the dns and voila, it worked.
 
did you ever check if your line can handle the speed you syncing at
it's 312kbps, never had issues before.

It's random, won't sync, them will sync but not connect, then it works fine then just dies totally, comes back up after a while.

I'll call telkom but it's working again.
 
It must be some kind of line fault then. Better phone telkom at 0800 375 375. Can you check the attenuation and SNR in the modem/router?

are you all your other instruments connected to that adsl line have micro filters?
 
Yep, micro filters installed, this just started happening for the last week out of the blue, I'm hoping it's sorted now but I'll see by tomorrow.

Seems to be on the rise, looks like there could be line interference that comes and goes

The Mega routers are terrible. if anything goes wrong its probably the router
