Telkom Mobile coverage getting worse.

Hi Guys,

I currently have a 10+10gb telkom mobile contract. Over the last couple of months I have found that the coverage is continually getting worse.

Lately when I am out and about, I often get an error message saying that I am currently out of bundle and that "out of bundle rates will now apply". This despite have the majority of my data still unused.

After having consulted with the Telkom Mobile support (rather painfully I might add), they have informed me that this is the error which is generated when you are in areas that do not have Telkom Mobile coverage...

Since I use my 3G card for travelling, I find it pointless to have mobile data which almost never works. Even in Midrand I seem to be having this issue (when I did not have it before).

I now feel like I am being screwed over having to pay for a product which does not work when required the majority of the time.

Have any of you guys been experiencing the same?

Are you able to purchase all networks bundle?
The "out of bundle rates will now apply" message indicate that you have accepted OOB. I suggest to disable OOB and load "all networks bundle".

Please be advised that the 10+10GB only works on areas where there is Telkom Mobile Coverage. If you are in areas where there is not Telkom Mobile coverage, you will get that error message that you are Out of Bundle.

Clearly your device is roaming. I don't know when it will choose MTN over TM, but I certainly don't want that to happen. I'd rather loose signal. So, on my phone, I explicitly search for and choose the TM network.

My outdoor reception of TM in Gauteng has been very good over the last few months. Inside a solidly built building with a steel roof, reception is a bit worse, so I place the phone where reception is good and enable WiFi tethering.

I've also noticed that perhaps because increasing numbers of people are signing up to Telkom Mobile, it seems like some of their towers just can't handle the traffic.

The Nooitgedacht tower in NWP, for instance (serving the Buffelspoort Dam area on one side and Hekpoort on the other) really whizzes along late at night when there is obviously little traffic -- but by day it's simply painful, barely as good as old-style dial-up on a good day!

It used to be brilliant -- before lots of other folks here also 'discovered' 8ta, perhaps?.... Do the mobile companies not monitor tower usage volumes and adjust accordingly?
