Getting better speeds on 3G

When the technicans came last week - They were just interested in RSCP.

Crossing fingers that my service stays stable as of lately my LTE speeds have been like a yo-yo ! UP,down and sometimes no throughput whatsoever.
 
From 2-3 bars to 5 bars!? Sounds like my own setup. Well congrats and enjoy. :D
 
I'm with you bud. My data bundles are being depleted at an unsustainable rate. I would love 50GB per month instead of my budgeted 20-30GB per month.
 
Bought 4 routers for a customer once she got a taste of LTE she was hooked and wanted the hardware immediately 3 at the office and 1 at her residential area. After setting up everything, clear line of sight of base station - 120 megs download, ul 9 megs, fell off my chair couldn't believe such speeds existed on LTE. Loaded airtime on the go big 120 - to test the service everyone at the office was connected 18 users.. Youtube loaded without any hiccup/buffering. ONLY problem we had all the bandwidth was finished by the time I left.

Her house was totally the opposite, very weak signal...


Crossing the caps do get increased to 100 gig - 200 gig per month for R500 i WOULD purchase it
If Telkom DSLAM do go to LTE way, hopefully we will see some good deals to come out hopefully in the future.

After getting a taste of LTE, starving for bandwidth every day but trying to control myself.

Currently downloading a 16GB game file (Diablo 3, Reaper of Souls) and my speeds are peaking at 3.5MB/s. Mostly it hovers around 2.90-3.10MB/s.

Howzit guys, how are you connecting to your router if I may ask, Wi-Fi or LAN cable?

Reason I'm asking is that I have experienced some serious differences regarding UL/DL Speeds and Ping when using Wi-Fi as opposed to LAN cable. Once I connected my TV to the B593 via LAN cable, it was rocking like a beast. But this fluctuation I experienced on various devices when using Wi-Fi rather than LAN.

Too lazy to run down the entire thread looking for your setup...

I have seen this phenomenon and questioned it before. LAN cable as well as a desktop or notebook gets full speed. Mobile devices like tablets and cellphones are slower. For instance, I typically get up to 50Mbps (not always mind you) on my desktop. On my tablet or cellphone I usually get 30-35Mbps, very seldom faster. While I can't run speed tests on my PS3 like we conventionally do, I saw before that my PS3 doesn't want to run faster than 7Mbps. My Apple TV is hard to test but I need to recheck it - I last used it when the LTE in my area was quite unstable.

I believe the key difference for device performance is the mini WiFi card used. If it's Intel you'll get full speeds, if not they will be slower. I know for a fact both my desktop and my MacBook Pro have Intel WLAN cards.

To answer your first question, I identified the B593 built-in WLAN as a weak link early on. I'm 99% sure that my new network has contributed to the stable WiFi speeds I see day in and out. My new WiFi is based on a UniFi system. See here for more info. I'd recommend you ditch the B593 WLAN function ASAP if you're serious about your WiFi.

The maximum speed I could accomplish was around 25 megs max, will be installing an antenna next month sometime when I have time on my hands to actually mount it and if weather does agree.

Hi The_MAC,

When I first started using the router was receiving terrible speeds on WI-FI(limited to 2 meg, per download window opened) on LAN was getting roughly about 4 meg download per windo open. After chatting with a few people on the internet someone recommended I should download TCP optimizer which I did once I applied all the settings noticed changes immediately. Lan speeds were peaking around 25 meg with WI-FI reporting the same.

Many factors play an important role.
* How far. you from LTE base station - do you have clear line of sight
* How many users are connected, with more users the signal deodorizes over time( Example 3 G is non-existent in my house, over a year ago I would have 2 signal bars.
* Type of hardware plays a very important role as @Azimuth reported.

Now with the router being freely available at at retailers such as cna,edgars for R1999, even 3 G MI-FI going for R 599 . Every store I visited yesterday had stock.

Just to point out, the phenomenon you are explaining is called cell-breathing, occurring mainly in 3G, not so much (or even at all) for LTE, so this should not be an issue. The only impact of more users would be your throughput as a direct result of sharing of the bandwidth between users and contention between 3G/LTE i.e. Transmission to the Physical Base Station.
 
Depends if the server you connect to is congested etc. Maximum download speed I have achieved was around 30 Megs with about 10 download windows open. Downloaded over 200 gig+ last month.

@oomdomy - do you have an LTE router or are you using your SamSung Galaxy S4 .
 
using Samsung S4 via my LTE mobile Wifi,

Wow 30Mbps it means the backhaul of your tower is 30Meg, some TM LTE towers have 100Meg backhaul.

I am roughly around 1.7 KM(Google Earth) away from the LTE base station! Not using an external antenna, using the built-in antenna. Many Obstacles are probably in the way, impressed at speeds! At a client managed to achieve about 130 megs
