Forget the server location for now, who hosts the server? Typically you want to test on Telkom's server.

Telkom Mobile sent over a technician after 24 hours of receiving my reference. He arrived at my premises 20 minutes before our appointment. Once here he did a few signal testing&speedtest with his tablet and an app called "RF Signal Tracker" his findings weren't positive - he has never came across a problem like this before where the signal just fluctuates/switches between 3G/2G and when running a few speedtest on sitesaix website it varied on every speedtest result 16 meg, 3 meg, 6 meg, 3 meg.

He went to every room & no 3 G signal at all drops drastically.

Ask them nicely to install an antenna for you (if the signal coverage map has you covered). Else foot the bill yourself.

Either get the big guns - LPDA-0092's - or get the more discrete XPOL-06. Ideally you want to scout and find the tower first, then check for LOS from various mounting locations.

All very easy and quite rewarding after the fact. :)

@Azimuth I was informed by him, all the information he gathered (speedtest, rssi, etc) would be passed onto to the network engineers and feedback would be given on the way forward. We will see about the antenna if free installation is given I am covered by the network but the network maps changes frequently.

3G shows 100 % without any white spots
LTE - on the edge.

I have a rough idea where the tower is but the elevation isn't at the same level very down the hill. I will have to get probably a 5 m pole to get LOS.

How much did your antenna equipment set you back

Sweet. In the beginning when I was testing downloads I used to get 1.5MB/s stable. Been a while though and that was when my LTE was rather up and down.

Hey guys! I'm using a Huawei (14.4mbps speed) modem I bought from Vodafone a few years ago. I've been using it with my 8ta sim card in it. Lately I've been getting poor speeds, sometimes as low as 0.1mbps, from 10mbps a few years ago when I first signed up to 8ta. I live in an area covered by LTE, and I'm considering buying a Huawei E3276 LTE modem. I hope my poor speeds problem will be solved?

Get telkom mobile to get someone there to see what's the issue

The only way to know for sure is to test the service yourself. Firstly, are you inside or outside of the LTE coverage map? If outside, how far?

What I'd recommend you do is take advantage of the Telkom LTE 14-day money back guarantee. Details here. Post your results then we can help you decide if it's worth it. You could still cancel the contract within the 14 days and then proceed with prepaid. The B593 can be obtained on prepaid with a data bundle for as little as R2200 (last I checked).

Unfortunately there is no other way to test TM LTE other than with an LTE router. There's no phone (iPhone 5C and 5S still not configured) that can run on TM's 2300MHz LTE network. There's also no readily available LTE signal tester in SA.

Edit: just re-read that you are inside LTE coverage. I'd recommend you still go with a B593 as above and post your results. Either way, your speed issues will definitely be a thing of the past. And skip the E3276.

I love how during a raging storm, my speeds rage on. :D

LTE burns through rain drops like a photon torpedo from the Starship Enterprise.

I mentioned before my pings had risen from 6 months ago where 20-30ms were common place - nice to see the return of 30ms.

Lucky bugger! I am jealous! I should camp outside your house!

"YUMMY!

Decided to do my own troubleshooting and do a sim swop as I had an outdated 8ta branded sim card to my surprise noticed a drastic change signal bars now shown 3 bars & downloads have improved drastically - just the only issue is latency/response times..

Did a system diagnostic check - wireless status and impressed with my RSSI, improved drastically from what I got previously. -89

Wireless Status
1 PLMN: 65502
2 Service status: Valid service
3 RSSI (dBm): -65
4 RSRP (dBm): -90
5 RSRQ (dB): -6
6 Roaming: No

Your ping is 19ms and you're not happy with that? It's better than ADSL!

Dude I am happy with the drastic improvement!! Just the response times to load websites is taken forever... I am using the standard external antenna..

I was using another service temporarily and sites were loading at a fast rate.
