See how much slower my phone is over WiFi? It doesn't seem to go any higher than this.

Hi Azimuth

I will run a couple of speed tests to the Cape Town SAIX server at different time of day during the week and will report the results here.
This is in Goedemoed (Durbanville) which is notorious for terrible cellular reception.

Last night at about 20:00, I downloaded a 4.7GB steam game at an average of 29 Mb/s with a peak reported speed of 34 Mb/s.
Not shabby at all :p

Im happy about all these speeds...but what price are you guys paying for data on mobile. Must be expensive

As low as R15 per GB for the Telkom Mobile 60+60 product; or ignoring the midnight allocations, R30 per GB.
 
It's cheaper to go the prepaid option on the go big 120(60 gig daylight data from 5am-11pm+ 60 gig data available from 11pm - 5 am) the data is valid for a year at a one-off fee of R1800 / R1710 if you buy your airtime from PEP for R95 per R100 airtime voucher.
 
Thank you for that tip Richard, I will go there when my current prepaid bundle runs out.

I ran a couple of speedtests in the mean time and managed to crack 70Mb/s on more than one occasion :eek:
We had really heavy fog last night which could account for the somewhat lower speeds.

Do you jusr get a Telkom sim and buy vouchers from PEP....then buy a 120g bundle?

Please make sure you have coverage before parting with R1800, example load R50 on the sim card and test the service, purchase a TELKOM MOBILE data bundle not ALL NETWORK data(you will be able to roam and unfortunately with the go big 120, you unable to roam on MTN network. You'll need to buy 18 X R100 vouchers(PEP Sale them for R95) = R1800 or alternatively if you don't have the patience to load 18 vouchers, topup with your bank credit card or internet banking - once your account has a positive balance of R1800, then you may proceed to purchase the 60gig +60 gig bundle. *180# option 1, option 1, option 7(if i remember correctly)

Excellent/Incredible/Amazing speeds, not even getting anywhere near there. Less than 1/3 of the speed you receiving.

The Missus will definitely object if it messes with her Pintrest browsing ;)

I guess the slow uptake of LTE in my neighbourhood is working in my favour.
