Keep in mind when porting over to Telkom Mobile you won't be able to receive international SMS anymore.

I have saved thousands just by using Telkom Mobile.. speak to family all the time and love the added perk load R20 receive unlimited phone calls to other telkom mobile users.

When you sign up now, do you still get the perk of nominating one Telkom landline number to which you can make free calls?

I had mine linked to my home number while I was away for 2 years on projects... saved me plenty!!

I didn't get that option with my contract in December 2013. Maybe it's only for certain contracts though.
 
I have a smart plan 100 and an internet promo 5 contract. I can't complain about the smart plan, calls always work, and 5gb of data on a phone is almost unbeatable. I do have to switch to MTN's network when at university, this is fine for calls, but sucks for data.

My internet promo 5 is my home data connection. I love the amount of data for the price, but speeds have been slowing, and I've had a few connection issues lately.

Telkom's biggest problem is customer service. It takes way too long to get anything done with them. Their deals are really good though.

No problems here. There are coverage and building penetration issues due to the higher 3G frequency used but my phone automatically switches to MTN quite quickly. The ONLY frustration I have is that the phone will have 2-1 Bar Telkom coverage and with that typically not complete the call initialisation. The attempt fails and then I have to wait 20seconds or so while the phone switches automatically to MTN before I can make another call attempt.

Some contracts still have that option available(When I last checked)... don't call as much as I use 2. It's either What app or calling my girlfriend/family and they on Telkom Mobile. Save thousands and the girlfriend phones me cause she is on contract.. Unlimited Telkom Mobile minutes...
