Telkom not accepting orders for WiMax

Success! Someone at the Midrand office arranged for a new WiMAX installation after I explained everything and I just got the "order for an electronic communications service" in the mail.

The representative I spoke to on 10219 assured me that they are taking new orders, for anyone interested.

Whats the pricing\packages\speeds like?

Can you apply for WiMAX in general or do they only provide it under certain circumstances?

Anyone can apply for Telkom Wimax but areas with no Telkom ADSL or 3G will get priority. Telkom only offers 512Kb/s access speeds on their Wimax service. You can use any ADSL ISP account once the install is complete to access the internet.

Sorry for the late response - adding onto what AllBrain said, I'm going with MWeb's "Internet Addict" package (uncapped/unshaped for R999) and will provide Speedtest results as soon as it's installed, which will hopefully be tomorrow.

No ways!!! Guys pitched up at my house today to install my WiMax that I applied for 10 months ago!!!
I basically told them to p*ss off because right after I applied Telkom said to me they aren't doing WiMax anymore (and thus I got internet with a different provider). And this is a month after they called me to install and I turned them away.
Stupid w@nkers!!

:D good for you !!! If they do not give you what you want when you want it, stuff them. Had a similar experience, and moved on.......

Yip, we move on - Telkom needs to catch a wakeup and decided if they are or are not offering a service ;)

I've been fighting with Telkom now for over a month. Can't understand that it's that difficult to add ports to an exchange to provide ADSL.

Then I oreded WiMax in August and a week later when I called to follow up they told me it's cancelled and they do not roll out anymore. This past Friday I had screamer at my house but no signal :( Phoned Telkom and was told that they still provide WiMax just not new base stations and my order still ready but waiting for equipment.

Could be just another telkom bull story and stuck with crappy iBurst.

This whole industry needs to catch a wake up tbh

Telkom is just pretty stupid when it comes to WiMax - think their internal communication is kind (actually drastically) screwed up...

ordered mine on the 7th and got it installed on the 21st

How did you go about ordering, cause I've been to Telkom Direct and still waiting for feedback.
I'm will attempt phoning 10219 next...and if that fails the fax method, LOL

Sounds like fun, thanks for the feedback.

You have to persist if you want to make an order.

I had to call 10219 four times before I spoke to someone who could help me. Each time I get a different response - first person said yes I can get WiMax but I have to use Telkom as an ISP. Decided that wasn't worth it. Call back after checking around, get given a number, which I called and was told that they haven't done installations of Wimax for a while. Call Telkom again, get put through to a department which tells me that they don't take orders by telephone and that I should call 10219 (who put me through to them in the first place).

On the fourth call I found someone who was happy to help, explained the costs and said I am free to use and ISP I want. Just need to see if the order goes through now...

All boils down to the fact that most of the people in their call centre are useless - they don't even know how their own products work... Quite sad actually...

Well let me tell you about my dilema.

About 8 months ago i decided to find out if i can get ADSL in my complex. Every 2 weeks i kept phoning back to find out what the process is. After a month i finally phoned again and got someone who actually knew what was going on. They said to me that my area is not supported (The complex was only 2 years old) so i accepted this and went back to sulking and hoping that they'd install the ADSL lines soon. I was told one year.

I then saw that Telkom was again providing the Wimax service. So i attempted to phone them and see if they can provide me the serivce.

I spoke to a lady who checked my avalibility and i was accepted and the call was logged and i got a reference number everything. Its been a month and i have called back twice to see what the progress is. The first time was that they busy with it and will contact me soon. On friday they told me that since i have never had a telkom service before and i apparently didnt qualify. I blew my top!!!

How can telkom say sorry we providing a serice but... you cant have it.

So i spoke to a manager and was promised a call in 1 hour. Still no call! He even said to me that someone did call me and tell me the bad news. Which was utter bull.

So now i sit with no line no wimax and a company that has no idea what customer focus and delivery is!!!!

Ive tried to get Amobia and Screamer to get a wimax connection, but because Im in the vlei they dont have signal, so out of desperation I finally phoned telkom, and my order was accepted and done in 5 minutes! I nearly fell over. Now Im wondering how long it will be before they rock up here - they claim between 2 and 5 working days, its been 4 so far- the lady I spoke to says they should have coverage here but not holding my breath. Other people in my area havent had ADSL for months now, and are pretty much giving up.

A friend just had his Telkom WiMax installed - took exactly a month from date of application...

I have also just ordered my telscum wimax, in store and online info request thing. They have phoned to confirm my order no. and I've received a letter from them as well...phoned 10219 and they told me I should expect a call from them in a month to organize an install...here's to hoping! When / if they decide to install i will give a review...which uncapped ISP do u okes recommend for dl'ing and local gaming(cod7)?
