Telkom plans uncapped local bandwidth

If Telkom does this and Neotel gives the consumers what they want, Telkom will go DOWN.

Telkom will go down regardless, they have absolutely no clue about service to their customers. They have no idea how to function in a free market system. When we eventually actually see competition for Telscum, they will sink. All their beloved share holders will go down in flames, and the gov will quickly get rid of the competition again. That is the way it works at the moment. We the people of this country are equal to a zero on a balance sheet in the govs eyes. It's all about the money...f@ckers!

Consumers will be charged for any local bandwidth usage after the service has been capped

This is obviously flawed (or am I missing something). If I have a 3Gb account and only use 2Gb (international) throughout the month, does that mean I can milk the local bandwidth to the max? Do they only want to charge for local after you've reached your international cap

Edit: Diabolic u beat me to this :D

Heres the loop hole guys...

Im confused with that article.

"Consumers will be charged for any local bandwidth usage after the service has been capped."

so you can buy a 1gig saix account and not use the international, and still have unrestricted local?

but then if you use the 1gig international you will be charged for all local bandwidth used??

Have i got this right?

VAK 'em like they DO us.

AVR

Then they hit back and say we "abusing" bandwidth again........ and limit us to 10 gig local just to be nice.

Maritz argues that “the cap which Telkom places on the bandwidth usage relates to Internet access and not to the ADSL service per se.”
Only in SA does Uncapped ADSL ≠ uncapped internet access.

They have 3 choices.

1.They give free local till you're capped and then charge for local. (in line with regs)
2.They sell you an account and all local is charged and cap is used by int only. (in line with regs)
3.Everything counts towards cap and then all local after is charged. (not completely in line with regs)

Now I honestly don't think they will be doing number 1. Knowing Telkom they will do 3 and even though it's not completely in line with regs they will get away with it. They did say since you can get local accounts they don't see how this will really benefit their users. Meaning they are making sure we don't benefit. :(

It seems telkom is unable to apply the spirit of the regulations and obviously don't realise the long term consequences of their actions. With so many other options to choose from and the fact the Neotel may soon be operational. They obviously aren't looking for long term customers.

Typical bl**dy arogance.

Dont worry, be positive, our regulator will sort it all out

As predictable as a bowel movement, sigh.

I wonder what IS is gonna do?
They need to compete with saix.
How they gonna sweeten the deal and keep their current business?

Scuse me, but... <censored>!!!!

Consumers will be charged for any local bandwidth usage after the service has been capped. This basically means that international hard capping will be strictly enforced while local bandwidth charges will be levied on any additional usage after being capped.

This company need to be terminated ASAP!!!

just one more way for them to screw us, nice one Telkom,

and i would love to know how much money Telkom makes per gig

i am sure they dont pay for local BW.

There must be a anoter way to go.

Who really cares about uncapped LOCAL unless you are a DC++ pirate ... we just want cheaper INTERNATIONAL.

Is there anyway for us to stage a protest of some sort? This is often joked about but then everyone laughs it off.
