Good Day

I was on the phone with a consultant from help desk and she did mention Signal Booster can be purchased at Telkom Direct / Telkom Mobile store, went into their store and the sales consultant told me straight they have never sold signal boosters.

Does anyone know where one can purchase a signal booster? example Cel-FI, as I am frustrated at Telkom Mobile and their coverage map not being transparent saying I do have coverage but my bars are non-existent or worst fluctuates due to cell breathing and get frequent drop calls in my house when making telephone calls as the phone will be on Telkom Mobile Network then roam or worst people cannot hear me sometimes.

P.S This is for voice calls NOT data as my LTE is working wonderful

While I cannot help on your request, I'm having the same issues with Telkom voice. Extremely happy with their LTE as a fixed data service but they are not a good choice for voice. I'm regretting signing a 2 year contract, man want a dupe. I've tested from Sandton to Roodepoort to Umhlanga.

Back on topic, I've been after a hat antenna configuration for ages. The hat antennas are freely available but the middle part - the booster between the external antenna and the internal hat antenna - isn't available to consumers.

Edit: check out this http://www.antennas.co.za/Products/ProductDetails?code=357

I am not looking at ANY antenna solution as there are currently 5 smart phones in the household that make use of voice calls daily and sometimes we have to walkout of the front door or go outside in the yard to actually call. Extremely frustrating at times at times and it is deteriorate over the days. Even a friend in another suburb is experiencing issues with Telkom Mobile Voice after the rain we had for a few weeks. Her Telkom Mobile 3G ain't operational any more before she was able to surf the net.

Not experiencing any issues on their LTE data network whatsoever but on their 3G fluctuates as yo-yo, best investment I have made purchasing the LTE router has improved my signal strength for data ONLY aka LTE.

Travelling experienced occasional dropped calls but can happen with any network The handover isn't always guaranteed and what makes matters worse if you in an area where Telkom Mobile Network signal is weak you will connect to that base station.

I am willing to invest in a Signal Booster - If Telkom are willing to sale this to the general public. Not looking for Antenna solution cos then I will have 1 phone attached to the wire with an elastic.

Signal booster (repeater) has to be installed professionally. As it uses TM spectrum, only Telkom Mobile network department can authorize installation of such device, Some people confuse simple external antena installation (one user) with repeater, it is why you got such advice.

I assume that comment was directed at me? The puck I linked to looks very much like a hat antenna, which is commonly use to boost signal indoors. The actual repeater on the other side of it still needs to be obtained.

Edit: my bad, I linked to a GSM antenna thinking it was a WiFi-type antenna. Apologies sajunky, you were right.

If you are having these issues, why not just just log a request with TM to install one for you? You shouldn't need to pay for it.

I am not on contract nor a heavy spender at all. Getting glory from Network Help desk is pathetic they informed that it can be obtained from a Telkom Mobile store which isn't true...

Then they will send over technicians to my premises to check the signal and nothing will be done about it which frustrates me.

Ah. Yes, the contract carrot.

FYI...

MTN:

Vodacom:

Those are hat antennas that are connected to a cellular repeater in the roof.

Here is the architecture of a cellular repeater and I actually found a place that sells them:

Problem is price. No wonder they want heavy contract spenders. They have links for MTN, Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom Mobile.

I take it we still don't have Femtocell technology in SA? That is surely the ultimate and the answer to these types of problems.

Surely there must be a cheaper cost effective method than spending R4500 +/-. I was looking in the ball park of R1000 something that can boost the signal a little.. I have seen many of those hat/round ball, always was under the impression it was a camera or something.
