Telkom Soft-Capped Services

I agree that it is what most of the user base would have wanted but by taking away the full speed local 20GB cap I myself can now do less than before... Don't see why they couldn't have kept the 20GB local full speed and only thereafter limit local data. Before I was able to stream Live sports on SuperSport on this account for the whole month now it's being shaped. Understand the reasoning but local data doesn't cost Telkom anything.

Take it up with Ranger, maybe he can pull some strings

If my line is doing nothing getting 45-50kb/s
Start steam on the other machine then steam flies but news down to 2-5kb

Steam has always been a bandwidth hog, don't know how they do it but it sometimes take all available bandwidth.

Never used to be a problem before, I just think they are prioritizing traffic once softcapped

Well I am going to get 50Gig Capped account. Goodbye TI.

Uncapped not for me - cant stand the slow line speeds , throttling / prioritizing etc. - oh but you get full line speed between....

I pay for a 6Meg line and demand 6Meg dl speeds.

Can we not take them on legally for "Degrading the package deal" surely - anyone ?

Getting OT

But on all my previous experiences with all my providers as soon as I open steam the rest of my internet is at a stand still. With steam using over 99% of the line capacity

We just discovered that YouTube is not working being SoftCapped! You can browse videos but not watch them... Not Cool!

Liveleek and NASA TV is still working 100% :)

I got soft capped and was not usable for me... even browsing tanked. I have however now upgraded to uncapped and saved around R150pm. I couldn't get an answer out of ti why uncapped of same speed etc was R150 cheaper than what I've been paying for capped for years, but I'm guessing when they change and update packages and prices, they don't adjust current users to the newer ones

So, if you've been on capped for years like me, I'd recommend checking the package and pricing vs the uncapped ones, you may be able to 'upgrade' and save some cash

Soft-capped on an uncapped account?

Is this some sort of Telkom logic, because to me it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever?

I'm on a 1Mb uncapped account and also got soft capped.. WTF

You are SoftCapped

Telkom Direct -- Useless !

Please could you PM me your figures
I tried working my account out from the figures given here ( news article ) and also though that I might get a discount
Went to the Telkom Direct but had NO luck there ( not even with the so called 25% line contract discount ) -- they seem to still work from last years documents.

Unless I actually print something out to take to them they just plead IGNORANCE !

Understand the reasoning but local data doesn't cost Telkom anything.

That is false. Telkom Retail has always paid for local-only data, and we are paying more now than before (approx 50% of the price of international).

Local-only was costing us a substantial amount, but was only of any value to leechers, and of no benefit to 95% of our capped subscribers.

Please send some figures of how many people actually used their capped bandwith just to verify your claim of costing a lot

I actually reported telkom to hellopeter ... Apparently I am now being softcapped after using next to 14 gig ... NOT EVEN 20 ... I have a 1meg line uncapped... my dl speed is about 40kb/s now ... in total -

"Telkom will provide necessary information on a customer’s usage status and
communicate appropriately to power users before service restrictions are applied." taken from their policy document

I was not notified ... just saying
