Telkom Speed upgrades

Sorry if this is a newbish question but I am trying to understand something:
I have been on the phone with Telkom for the better half of this afternoon but they don't seem to have their best day today in customer service:

I am on a 4MB line and have been on this since about a long time. It is my understanding that 4MB lines have been upgraded to 10MB lines. When asking Telkom about this it boils down to that whilst my exchange has apparently been upgraded, my house is too far away from the exchange itself so it will not be upgraded to 10MB.

Basically this means that I am stuck on a 4MB line for the foreseeable long-term future or is there any other work around you guys can suggest in order to receive respectable speeds? Any help is appreciated.

This is what I receive from the ADSL checker:

Service Available
Maximum speed available in your area 4 Mbps
Your Current Service speed 10 Mbps

Why do I have to wait so long, I rarely even USE my Telkom account :(

I probably used 1GB max of my Telkom cap for the whole of 2013! Please help upgrade me TelkomZA I'm your greatest customer!

There is no work around except if 1. You move closer to the exchange or 2. They build a new one close to you ( i wouldn't get my hopes up on number 2 )
Also , they upgraded your account to 10mbps so if you move to a location with 10mbps capable speeds and you migrate your line , you will be getting the speeds you pay for :)

Check your line stats in the router - SNR and Attenuation. If those values are bad, you probably can't sync any higher.

I have just had Telkom here - also told I am on a 4MB line, have been working on 2MB for over a year - and now been downgraded to 1MB . . . because I am "too far away from the exchange by 1.5km, and on the wrong side of the street for the upgrade". No, really. That's what they said. I'm thinking ALL of Telkom's "upgrades" are a huge crock - possibly a badly-thought-out marketing ploy.

Just called in and got my 1Mbps upgraded to 2Mbps for the free upgrade :)

Just had to call in again to fix the minor syncing issue.

Why would free upgrades be a marketing ploy?

Just because it didn't work out for you doesn't mean it won't for the rest of us, you might REALLY just be having exchange issues.

I'm having no luck with the contact center. I have the phone to my ear as I'm typing this, currently holding for 24 minutes. I usually get fed up at 30 minutes waiting. I just want to downgrade to 4Mbps from 10Mbps I was moved to as I am only able to sync at 3Mbps. :(

Post your adsl router stats here, SNR & Attenuation.

Also still on 1mb line in Rustenburg, and patiently waiting to be upgraded. We will probably be the last to be upgraded. I have tweeted them, so lets see what happens??

I tweeted @TelkomZA at 9 this morning and I noticed my line has just been upgraded. :D

I also just checked mine, and says 2mb. But at the office, so will have to test later......... Yeah
