Telkom To Cut Prices

What would you see as a fair across the board ADSL line rental price cut?

The last series of price cuts were fairly significant so I'm hoping these ones will be too.
 
Significant? No way! I can still not justify the cost of ADSL!

And I have not much hope for this new round of cuts...
 
Hrm first the closer packages now this.. I wonder if they trying to bargin with Icasa and saying something like, "sure will drop the rental but I want to charge per gig what i can." which is possible atm. Guess I'll have to wait and see what the reduction is, I won't be supprised if its like no pots line rental if you have adsl, cause that way the pots service appears to be an extra like with the closer package that encourages usage.
 
I'll still leave them when the SNO comes into operation in Q4 this year.

Let's see... Those happened at the end of August 2005. It's now EXACTLY 6 months later, with the next ones after this due again "when the company presents its annual tariff filing to the Independent Communications Authority of SA", which is in August, 6 months from now.

They're working on a 6 month schedule. If you can wait another 6 months, don't get ADSL now. In 6 months time it'll be cheaper, and there'll be more competition, regulation changes etc.

(ic, IMHO as far as Telkom are concerned, November 1st wasn't a price change, it was a loophole closer. Still sucked tho' :( ).
 
Should've happened LONG ago if this was economies of scale. No, this is merely a ploi to look good with the up coming hearings
 
The only meaningful discount is to drop the line rental. Telkom's decreases are invariably an increase in disguise. Telkom sucks, it is a sick company and epitomises the problems we have in this country - it created many of them. :mad: :mad: :mad:
 
Everyone is so negative. This is what we have been wanting, lets see what they have to offer before ripping them to shreds. If it is going to be cheaper it is one step in the right direction.

The problem is, they're doing this according to their own schedule, in a way that maximises their profit. They don't care that we are now years behind the rest of the world (including large parts of Africa). All they care about is their bottom line.

If they gave a s**t, they'd do a hell of a lot more.
 
KoRn, the last time Telkom offered a price decrease it was very small and everyone still cheered until it was followed up shortly there after with a moerse increase in the cost of bandwidth and the hard cap.
Telkom doesnt exactly ooze consumer confidence so the skepticism (not really negativity) is well placed and well deserved.
 
Sneeky, i agree with you ... .telkom are very sneeky, if they loose money in from dropping the price they try to make it up somewher else. They do not count the increase in consumers from discounts to be a good thing rather 'damn i could of made more if I neva cut the prices'

Well, this time they better not do something like that again... otherwise there'll be a LOT of p*ss*d-off people wanting to get some Chuck Norris-style action.

We all are negative, yes, because of the constant battle to get proper service out of a company who's being protected by the govment.

This time we will wait and see what happens *after* the price increase. No doubt there will be some shuffling behind the scenes and we'll end up paying more for something.

Gah.

At least it is Friday.

Now see them drop the line rental by R20 and increase installation fees by R30 and increase bandwidth prices :)
 
And there WILL be a catch, like you only get "discount" on "line rental" if you take the voice package with, or sign a 5 year contract... just you wait and se :(

ja something like "installation is R400, but 10% discount for every 30 days it takes longer than 2 weeks" everybody would get free installations. :)
