Man I am so peeved at the moment.

Long story short. Wednesday I get home internet not working, 1 orange light on my netgear modem, so I reboot, internet doesn't come up. So I assume it was the storm in JHB the previous eveing that was to blame.

Anyway, I end up trying another old telkom modem I have, and although not immediately eventually it connects (DSL light flashes 10 - 20 times then connects)

Performance has been crap to say the least, keeps dropping, slow as a dog.

Anyway, a techy comes to my place today, awesome guy, basically tells me that they upgraded my line from 4mb to 10mb but looks like it doesn't work. I may be to far from the exchange.

So he phones in and asks them to drop it to 614mb and it connects but is DOG slow, was getting 1.2 mb dl on speed test and most pages just time out. So he had them drop it back to 4mb.

BUT the line still keeps dropping, even while the dude is here, basically he tells me it is my equipment that is faulty as he can't pick up any issues on the line.

**** so I drive to my office and get a spare DSL router and so far it seems to be working ok.

Now I wonder if my router was just ****ed and that's why it wouldn't work @ 6MB?

What I don't get it is how they upped the line speed, which messed my line up, and my modem died at the same time  Plus I don't get how the other modem is also screwed.

Anyway, just had to vent. I am a frustrated sad panda.

It sounds like the storm could have damaged your router.

Have you tried the router at the office? I have experience with one router that couldn't handle low voltages so in the rainy season it would stop working properly (the house gets low voltage in the rains). We put it on a UPS and that fixed it.

I took the modem in today and yip it looks like it was struck by lightning :(

Was all black inside.

O well, thanks mother nature.

did you manage to come right with your new speeds??

once you get them, you will never look back! kinda like geting an iPhone and looking back at a BB

Its still not great, I bought a new router as that one got fried by lighting but I am still only getting between 1.8 - 2.5 on speedtest.net

I can notice it is slower and sluggish.

I have logged another fault with them. They must sort this out.

lol @ iPhone comment. Best phone I have ever used, just got the white one ;)
