Telkom versus Neotel

the article fails to mention that neotel is coverage dependent and telkom is not- they are definitely not covering allot at the moment yet.

true they have limited coverage and those prices aren't that much cheaper and what about hidden costs?

NeoFlex Voice is available currently across large parts of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban, with coverage growing weekly. If you check coverage on our web site, you'll find that it is shown with the same coverage as NeoConnect Lite (our standalone home phone device), since it makes use of the same technology (CDMA2000 1X), and is more extensive than our current high speed Internet (CDMA2000 1xEV-DO) coverage. If you haven't already checked or contacted us, it's advisable to check regularly.

People often forget to do a full per month cost comparison. You'll note that all Neotel billing is per second. We estimate that this represents an additional 20-30% saving over and above the comparison between the price list figures you see, as many of our customers are finding.

Dear Neotel representative,

It would be useful if you actually publish and commit to release plans for your roll outs. I been checking for almost 12 moths online and trough ur call center... getting board of it now...

Also i find your coverage map very amusing. For instance, take Cape Town, West Sea board area..... Your coverage map shows that you provide service mainly to vast farmlands, sewage processing plant, quarry, petrol refinery, informal settlement, rubbish dump.... generally 2/3 of cover area will not utilize ur service .......
Makes one wonder what will yo do for the rest of areas there .... are you rolling fiber, putting up exchanges, planing to offer wired services .... or simply don't care to make money.....

Please do share ur infinite wisdom plans on this roll out/coverage....

Neotel does not look that cheep, they are just as bad as Telkom, making money off us, they are just a few cents cheaper on everything,

were is the real deals, like pay for your calls but internet is free,

Neotel's data only offering was a MAJOR dissapointment and they totally lost the plot there.

same here; guess coverage for faerie glen is imminent., o wait it took so long I had to sign up with telkom's adsl; not to mention my friend over in equestria- same story.

using jargon and tech speak != 100% throughput on your products- we all very well know what you are using as it has been so kindly force fed to us for a long time now. In all honest truth neotel hasn't been the home coming that it has promised out to be. Telkom Killer™ has been coming since '98...

...maybe we will see DNF first.

the SA consumer: veering between the apathetic and the unrealistic....

as an aside it would be a good idea to treat the Neotel rep with a little courtesy and skip the sarcasm: while they clearly need to up their communication game it is great that they have a rep (I can think of one major provider they are being compared to that has never managed to get that right)

You people irritate me, when will enough be enough for you, when its free ? How do you think the companies you work for and get your monthly salary from make money, by giving things away for free. Wake up

Lol niether is telkom due to cable theft :D

Neotel is getting more and more coverage while telkom is losing more and more

I needed a connection not when they have coverage or on their immanence - that is the only reason why i am with telkom / telkom adsl at the moment.

please feel free to point out in my post where i have asked for it to be free- i merely stated to honest truths; there is no coverage its immanent to be and they always side step with some jargon speak when put on the spot raving on about their technology they are using...

LOL

Making money off us, I'd hope so otherwise they wont be around for to long... They are still a business, and still a very new one... Atleast they are undercutting Telkom, which by now has paid for almost all of its infrastructure...

Its not awesome but its a step in the right direction... Lets just hope they data only packages (Fibre/ADSL) will also undercut Telkom soon...

That it is, but one should also state the complete pro's and con's as such, in this case that neotel is coverage dependent where as telkom is not as coverage linked without just having it in a way that one company looks better than the other just on pricing.

For National Calls during Off-Peak: Neotel to Neotel = 0.43, while Neotel to Telkom = 0.33.

Huh? Cheaper to phone Telkom during off-peak? Hope this is just a typo

While there are a few guys who complain about prices, I think it is of value to note that there are interconnect rates with Telkom (for Neotel to Telkom rates) which basically set a minimum price on such calls. I think Neotel has done exceptionally well to undercut Telkom on pricing to Telkom lines. Remember: No interconnect for Telkom on on-net calls…

For those who feel that pricing is not that good – compare Telkom to Neotel with Neotel to Neotel. Then do the opposite…
