Well, we got capped early this month on our 3GB, around the 20th of January. So we ordered an extra gig just for this month. I Phoned in and ordered it and it all went smoothly. Then I finished the extra one gig today, so I called in to cancel.

I was waiting on the phone for around 2 hours and 45 minutes, not something surprising seeing that Telkom has got that reputation. So about 10minutes after I started the call, I started watching Wanted and left the call on speaker phone hoping that someone would answer... The whole movie went by and no answer came.. I waited for around 2 hours and 45 minutes and was talking to the guy for 15 minutes. After waiting on hold for that long and then to get bad service on top of that is very disappointing.

When the guy answered I could barely hear him, sounded like he had a cloth over his mouth. And he wasn't really friendly as well.

I didn't choose the "Telkom will call you back" option because last time I chose that, I got a call 4 hours later :S

Just something for South Africa to think about....

I don't understand.... you ordered an extra Gig, used it, then called in to cancel?

We have a cap of 3gb, i had to download several big files this month so my cap got finished faster than usual. Normally 3gb is more than enough for me. Thats why I cancelled it because if you don't it carries throught to the next month

Firstly, why are you phoning in to get an extra gig of bandwidth when you can just buy it online?

Secondly, why are you using Telkom as your ISP when you could be using Afrihost and only pay R29 per gig?

That's why I queried about a contract and the possible Telkom package?

first you wait for an hour or so
secondly you cant hear the person talking
lastly you dont understand the person

Then why do you stay with them? Go to another service provider...

I'm with Telkom and Afrihost as backup. Last November I had to apply to have my out of contract package dropped from 4Mb to 384, closer 5 to closer 2 and that includes the 5GB cap to 1GB due to a lost of income. Everybody was friendly and I never waited long to have the telephone answered. Unfortunately I had to repeat this process 3 times and all I managed to achieve was to have my line downgraded at the end of December and a bit later the closer 5 package to closer 2. I also incurred a R500.00 expense due to the downgrade. This I must pay tomorrow, but I spoke to someone and the amount is supposed to be credited next month. Will have to see how that goes.

Friday afternoon I phoned in order to upgrade my line again to 4 Mb and also to closer plan 5. I waited about 45 min before I disconnected myself clowning around with the phone. I never got the option for them to phone me back. I phoned again and waited about an hour for the call to be answered. Got friendly service and the only complaint is that have to phone again before my account is closed for the month in order to activate the Closer plan 5 option. I did wait long for the calls to be answered, but it was 17:00 on a Friday and think the call centres are very busy that time of day. In general I did not get that great service in the last 3 months, but compare that to about 15 years of internet related service, I cannot complain.
P.S, unless you phone from something other than a Telkom line, you do not pay for the call.

Lost Cause

telkom really needs to educate its people

Education is NOT the great panacea everyone thinks it is

There are a couple of thngs that need to be rectified FIRST

WILL to work is what is needed.

Unfortunately very few of our previously disadvantaged brothers and sisters have a PASSION for technology ( or the PROTESTANT ETHIC )

ie a fair days pay for a fair days WORK

There are very FEW good managers / business leaders to provide examples and DRIVE people forward.

What is happening to Telkom is happening to EVERY Gov department and parastatal in SA.

Although personally I have very few problems that I am not able to solve .........

The ONLY way to arrest the * GENERAL * decline will be via REVOLUTION. ( It is very UNLIKELY that we will ever be able to VOTE another bunch of thieves into power )

Am I missing something here with the OP 'adventure' with Telkom?

3gb ran out -> 1gb telkom top-up?

What's there to cancel?
