I'm 600m from the exchange/box. My line was VERY stable and I had absolutely no hassles. Until I was moved to this ASSIA thing.

I don't know if this is the right place but I'm hoping someone can help me. I have been 26 days with no service on my Telkom VDSL line now. It keeps going in a cycle where I log the call.. nothing happens for a week then I escalate. A technician comes out checks the line says he checked the exchange is ok and the problem is on the pole then he reconnects me on the pole my line works for about 1-2 hours then is off again and I have to re-log the call as telkom say the call has been closed. I am desperate as I run my small consulting business from home and with no phone or internet for a month is killing me. The call center is useless.. I only get help 1 out of ever 5 calls. I'm desperate. Im 400m from the exchange so its madness to me why it cant work. There is no fiber in my area so Im stuck and my bandwidth requirements are such that LTE/3G is out of the question so I'm now totally desperate.
Depends if you are on old or newer infrastructure though is it not? Im on 20mbps line, and thats the max i can get, despite being only about 500 to 700 meters away from the exchange. However, im still on older infrastructure i think. That's the max allowed distance for 40mb if I'm not mistaken, some people have been lucky enough to get a stable 20mb line at 2km, it all depends on the copper quality.
It could also be that your exchange is congested m8, 20mb VDSL shouldn't have issues at that range unless the telkom techs messed up the cabling and can't find the issue, happened to me last time, they usually send techs from Huawei to install the MSAN and outsource contractors to install the fibre and copper running to the SDC's. The rest is up to the local techs working in your area.Depends if you are on old or newer infrastructure though is it not? Well yes, could be. But im having major issues right now. Technitian has been out, and needs to come back again. Getting a connection, but its slow as hell. Apparently im no longer connected to the Dslam, but somehow can still connect but very slowly. Web pages open after 5 mins *sigh*It could also be that your exchange is congested m8, 20mb VDSL shouldn't have issues at that range unless the telkom techs messed up the cabling and can't find the issue, happened to me last time, they usually send techs from Huawei to install the MSAN and outsource contractors to install the fibre and copper running to the SDC's. That sucks dude, hope they get it sorted soon!Well yes, could be. But im having major issues right now. Technitian has been out, and needs to come back again. Yeh me too. After a month and a half of no issues, last few weeks its been crap. Fault has been open for a long time, but im getting annoyed by it now. Not sure why the technician left, and now he has to come back again. Only thing ill do now is claim for the days ive been unable to use it properly. That sucks dude, hope they get it sorted soon!
Interestingly for the last few weeks now, i could only stream youtube on 144p, and my web pages would only load after about 5 mins. Torrents were at around 14kb/s. I found out on Saturday that i was connected to the Dslam or something was wrong with my line.
the technitian is at my place, but says nothing is wrong. Says he will replace my phone line, as my phone line is quite old. *sigh*
could this be the problem ie an old phone line?
Remember the issue I had?, Crosstalk is a b1tch m8..This means they did not replace your cable previously or they missed a small segment or joint ,when they did the initial replacement of the line. Happened to me as well dude. Check all you segments/joints at home, even check inside the roof If you have cables running there. If you do have cables up there, get that tech to climb up there and test it with his Tone & prob tester. Telkom won't check it if they don't know about it.
He replaced the phone cable leading from inside to the box outside. Seems to have made a slight difference. I had to leave, but will check again tonight. I know you had these issues, but urgh its a pain when they do half a job to begin with
Ill do so. Will check, but in the meantime ive lodged a dispute with them for all the days its been unusable. So i aint paying for a full service Telkom! It truly is a pain in the a$$, you have to think for them as well, I hope the replacement cable helps dude..but when you get back home, check all the joints. If it still has not improved, get him to use his tone & prob and test every joint from the house to the SDC.

Good Day, Have logged a Line Fault for my 10 Mbps DSL Line but it is still not resolved.
Telkom ADSL "telkom ref." restored. Reply to this SMS within 24 hours with NO if service is still faulty else with YES
Telkom ADSL 'another telkom ref." restored. Reply to this SMS within 24 hours with NO if service is still faulty else with YES
Line still drops or loses connectivity and Last person i spoke to said ASSIA was managing the line due to there being some issue on the line and that they where going to send a Telkom Technician out to investigate.
Please could you have a look !

Is this discussed in a meeting? Ie "okay guys, dont forget, pretend you know what you are doing, then say you going to the exchange"^^ This. Having the same endless sh***t with degrading line quality and the Telkom fix has been to just drop the sync speed... no one is interested in actually checking anything... the Telkom tech stands at the gate looking at stats on his tablet and then shoots off to the exchange and * poof * never returns... and the fault is closed as resolved, yet the line is still as sh**tty as it was before he arrived.
So, to get a tech to actually probe and test the house to the SDC would be a miracle... but a necessary one!
