TelkomZA

Have spoken to the client to find out if they are still unable to browse the internet and he has confirmed that it had started working this morning.

I have located the closest 10mb enabled exchange in my area, and it's 1,1km away from where I stay

How did you do that? I'm always curious how people find information about exchanges. It doesn't seem to be publically available.

Dug really deep into telkom's website and found a link to broadbandstats.co.za . They have exchange names for each suburb in SA and line speed ability. A really long list. The exchange name is hyperlinked to Google maps which pinpoints the exact location. In my case, the suburb I live in is served by 3 exchanges.

Good find. Thanks subzero.

Seems a little outdated -- says my area doesn't support 10mbps, but it does. Still has accurate location data, though..

How long is the average wait for a line to be moved to a new address in the Johannesburg area?

I put in the order the 2nd of December and the date of the moving was the 19th of Dec, still no word. Is it normal to have to wait this long?

Edit: Got a hold of someone that said "They don't have any cables" and "Telkom is running is project in my area". Whatever that means, all I know is I'm gonna be without internet for several months...

All while Telkom is all too happy to charge me anyway.

I just moved from mweb to Telkom. I have received an sms with access details. Seems like they only sent an email password and not an adsl password. Or is it the same thing?

"Welcome to Telkom Internet, your account is now active.Access Username: [email protected], Email Login [email protected], temporary password xxxxx, Email address [email protected], For assistance setting up your account or to purchase any additional value added services please contact 10210"

I don't want to create a new thread for this, but is anyone else here on the Honeydew exchange?

I can't apply for ADSL because according to the call center consultant they can't connect me to the exchange because "they don't have any cables".

Is there a way for me to find out what is really going on instead of talking to consultants who might or might not know what they are talking about?

Have you PM'd TelkomZA? If it can be answered they will be the ones that have it.

Else consider a WISP as an alternative for connectivity, right in the middle of Bitco coverage.

I have, I sent one on the 27th of December, no reply.

I tentatively signed up for Bitco to do a LOS test, but the downsides are outweighing my willingness to sign up. Which is why I want to find out what is going on, if an ADSL line is completely out of the question, I might have to bite the bullet and go with Bitco anyway.

May be a bit slow over festive period, they always come back to you eventually.
