TelkomZA

Line was totally dead today and the tech got that sorted. Tested with his modem and synched at just under 4mb I get home and my modem took about 10 reboots to allow me to connect WiFi won't connect at all need to add DNS manually to all my PCs to get them to brows. No idea what happened to cause my line being dead and my modem to freak out like this, will end getting a new one tomorrow. Thanks to the lady at the call centre and her efforts to get someone out here let's hope the new modem will synch at the correct speeds.

TelkomZA need help again, after on emotion flawless 20meg sync to to your new msan my line went from not Authenticating on the 1st of Feb to completely dead now. Telkom says it's my isp accounts (both of them lol) and the isp says it's Telkom despite everything due paid up on my side. Please help I ditched dstv for internet so am without anything at the moment.

My 2mb line that has been working fine for over a year suddenly a week ago became slow. I barely get 20% of line speed and very slow pings. Fault was logged but no response since from Telkom. Tried TelkomZa on twitter a few times, but also no response. This is really frustrating.

@telkomza You have another PM, please can i get some assistance today. Its day 15 now without an internet connection.

@Joka69 I'm quite confident that our faults could be related. I'm also sitting with a dead line in Wilro Park since 2 weeks ago. In my case, Telkom claims to be replacing a damaged 50 core cable. I just can't understand why it should take 2 weeks to replace a length of 50 core cable? @TelkomZA still alive? Helpful one moment, totally ignoring pleas for help in the next moment. Please can I have an estimation on how much longer this Telkom maintenance is planned to take?

"Cry me a river" if you will, but Wilro Park had to endure 5 hours of load shedding last night just after City Power claimed on their twitter that there would be no stage 3 load shedding in the evening longer than 2.5 hours. NOW not only are we set for a whole weekend of load shedding from Eskom, but Wilro Park will be without water the entire weekend too!! That means my home will be lacking ALL government-related services (all of which I pay for) simultaneously this weekend: Electricity, Water, and a Telkom line all broken. Seriously? What an absolute joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Having lots of problems (mainly speed related) with my line which is 2 Mbps. Last time it came close to that was for 3 - 4 months after Telkom upgraded 1 Mbps to 2 Mbps. Then developed noise on the line and ever since I never got close to 75% of 2 Mbps. Usually around 1.1 - 1.2 Mbps although there is no noise on the line.

The past month I've had periods where it would drop to about 700 - 500 Kbps and since Wednesday it went from 700 to 510 where its been for 2 days now. When the modem starts up after being off, it shows attainable rate at 2+ Mbps and down/up as 510/253 Kbps :wtf:

SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 69 228
Attenuation (0.1 dB): 655 367
Output Power (0.1 dBm): 142 126
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 1856 784
Downstream Upstream
Rate (Kbps): 510 253

Yes I'm 4 or 5 km from http://www.broadbandstats.co.za/exchange/WMLK but that did not prevent it from achieving 2 Mbps for 4 months without any problem whatsoever. I am paying for 2 Mbps and getting 25% of that and Telkom is planning to raise speeds to change it to 12.5% if not 0% at the rate its been going for the last few days.

What options does one have without breaking the bank? I don't really want to pay more than I am at the moment.

Oh well my internet is broken after the huge hail storm we had today

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3168 kbps 256 kbps
Line Attenuation 12.0 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 6.5 db 8.0 db

My experience is exactly the same as @tdev. Even the traceroute results are the same. Since yesterday however my router is unablr to connect. Tried Bitco (no LOS), Amobia no coverage, Neotel no coverage.

@Joka69 I'm quite confident that our faults could be related. I'm also sitting with a dead line in Wilro Park since 2 weeks ago. In my case, Telkom claims to be replacing a damaged 50 core cable.

I too think our issues are related, even though i was promised by a supervisor (after i pleaded with this guy to get somebody to sort my line out for this morning, because i had to be online for work @ 8am, i now realise, he was just telling me what i wanted to hear to get me off the phone) in bloem yesterday that my line will definately be sorted by this morning, appearantly my issue was that when the lightning struck some 2 weeks ago, it damaged port at the dslam, and the reason it took so long to sort was because they had a shortage of ports to replace mine, & they finally managed to get 1 for me yesterday, and they would have it sorted latest this morning. And yet, still off line. @Telkomza just in case you were wondering, DAY 16 without an internet connection.

I doubt however (hopefully) that we going to have load shedding today and tomorrow as according to the ESKOM Load shedding site, we at stage 2 which shows wilropark is clear till Tuesday.

4 Days without ADSL, do Telkom technicians work on Saturdays and Sundays?

All because a Technician disconnected my line on Tuesday, while repairing someone else's line.

Thanks Mr Incompetent!

Anyone else experience the same pathetic service?

Following message sent to 072*******: Dear Customer, Fault 18**CRK020215 has been created for Service ID 011892****. Telkom will endeavour to resolve this problem within 2 days. Apologies for the inconvenience. Please do not reply to this SMS. Telkom Mon Feb 02 19:28:03 SAST 2015

Still no service. Not worth the 90 minute wait by dialing 10210 - useless braindead morons....

They do in East London
Even aferhours Had a Technician say phone me any time when he was fixing my problem ( on call all night )

I got the same SMS a while back
Eventualy the Problem was Fixed
about 2 days with no internet or landline

Technician phoned me to say they had problems with the main cable in Oxford street.

Also I went to the Telkom shop to phone my problem and the Lady behind the counter told me all the right numbers to push to get the right help Instantly.

I didn't realise until I found this forum That I am only one of many people with the same problem i.e slow adsl particularly since about the end of January and also many in the Wilro Park area. I am in Helderkruin adjacent to Wilro Park. My Number is 011 768 03??
I have a 10MBPS account with Telkom for some years now but NEVER connect at more than 2MBPS at the best of times but I live with it because my children and grandchildren all share the account and use up the data. Switching to a slower speed account will reduce the data and I will have to top it up at higher cost. I also lived with the slower speed as it was always quite reliable until a few weeks ago.
The problem seemed to start after a fairly violent electric storm in our area damaged my modem. I replaced the modem with a DLINK from Telkom but since then it took ages to sync, if at all. I got the port reset etc. I eventually got a technician who tested the line with his own modem and managed to sync at around 1.5MBPS. He was extremely helpful and suggested I try another modem. I then got a HUAWEI from Telkom which is much better at syncing but still I am battling to get a consistent speed. I get anything between 0.39 to 1.58 over the past few days.
My current router stats are:-
Line Standard ADSL_G.dmt.bis
Downstream/Upstream max line rate (kbits/s) 2176/1052
Downstream/Upstream actual line rate (kbits/s) 1651/507
Downstream/Upstream SNR (dB) 6.8/12
Downstream/Upstream line attenuation (dB) 47/26.7

Speedtest www.saix.net Ping 22ms, Download/Upload 1.46/0.41 Mbps This is actually quite good for me if stays consistent which it is not anymore.

What I would really like to know from an expert is:-
Firstly, considering my router/line stats should I not be able to achieve a higher line speed than I have been getting i.e. currently 1.5Mbps?
Secondly, why is the service currently so poor in terms of consistency?

Well on the 2nd point Telkom is continually getting rid of staff so Lesa people to man the call centres and less competent technicians to fix faults. I wonder if it is just not a ploy to get us to use Telkom ftth where they can charge you more and give you less

On the max speed there is a post that I can try to find that will help using the noise distance to exchange etc to calculate what speed in theory you should be able to receive

Hi TelkomZA

I have been charged a DSL service fee last November because my line was transferred back to Telkom while i was leaving Axxess for afrihost. This has stayed on my account for the past 5 months and I have tried each month to get it rectified. There should be no DSL charge at all on my account because i was never with Telkom for my internet. My account is : 349901390455
