The star of T2 is Arnie not Linda. Ripley happened to be the sole survivor and that's why she's in Aliens.

Dark Fate doesn't have star power and the endless failed sequels further tarnished its image.

I would've gone for broke and targeted the Chinese market. Have Asian instead of Mexican.

In fact they'll have to look at China to salvage some box office because it won't even top $80m in the US.

Bit of a slight that. Both Ripley and Sarah Connor are the respective actresses career-defining roles.

Ripley is and always was going to be the (human) star of Alien. Weaver received an Oscar nomination for Aliens and her role in Alien put her on the map.

Linda Hamilton's star didn't rise as high, but again Sarah Connor is an iconic role.

Both are iconic characters and yes, both are still considered benchmarks for female leads.

Asians don't like SJW stuff though - that's why this movie (and all other SJW movies) never do well there.

Look at the Chinese box office receipts for Star Wars: The Last Jedi for an example. Despite having an Asian actress, it did terribly there. The Chinese don't dig SJW and won't pay to see it.

I wonder if Cameron is just trying to shift the blame a bit for the failure.
I also wonder if Cameron hasn't been brainwashed into the sjw woke agenda of liberal Hollywood and now regrets it, though sjw's tend to double down on failure so only time will tell.

James Cameron is known for strong female leads and I don't think he is shifting blame. Tim Miller the director was fired by Ryan Reynolds over creative differences when they were preparing to shoot the sequel to Deadpool.

Yeah, agreed.

Look, no matter how they edited the film, John Connor dies and the entire Skynet thing is forgotten. The entire point of this movie was to kill the past and introduce a new slate of characters, which failed dismally. I don't see how Cameron didn't know about all of that until the editing phase.

Also, not a lot of people are crotchety old farts (like me) that didn't see the movie because of its SJW agenda. A lot of people would make the decision whether to see it or not based on the trailers. This means that the trailers just didn't excite people. Which shouldn't be surprising in retrospect, but it also means that you cannot blame editing for that.

I think people in the movie business like to sniff their own farts and believe that a critic's opinion really matters when it comes to selling tickets. It only matters for movies that are like 90% plus. For the rest, its the trailer that matters and marketing in general.

They probably told Cameron - "Make it SJW! It will sell, trust me! Look at how many people are tweeting about feminism! They will lap this stuff up!"

He should have learned about GetWokeGoBroke before it slapped him in the face.
 
I did not see it either, but that's got more to do with my inability to understand spanish.....

I don't have a problem with strong female leads. The Alien series is one of my favourites, loved Hamilton in T2, etc, etc. They were all well written and not forced.

There is a big difference between a strong well written female lead and inserting SJW politics just for the sake of it.

Ja I think this sort of thinking is part of the problem, too many people think social media maps real world sentiment. But it doesn't. It represents only a subset of the real world, and highly woke people are more likely to be actively engaged on social media and they shout the loudest. So conclusions drawn from responses on social media are heavily skewed.

I personally have no issues with heroines being the main characters in movies, in fact I find that more interesting!

The best example I can think of is Haywire with Gina Carano - I really liked that movie! Because she was 100% believable and it was a nice solid spy/action/thriller to boot. I wish they would bring out more similar movies with her as the lead. Also enjoyed Alien (and Aliens) - probably my second favourite movie after The Matrix, Jody Foster in the Silence of the Lambs, and I'm sure if I sat down long enough and tried to remember all my favourite movies, the list would go on for quite a while.

Quite frankly I do not care about the gender of the lead character provided the movie is good.

But I've had it with SJW idiots trying to tell me how to think!

Unless “Terminator: Dark Fate” sees an exceptionally strong hold in the coming weeks, sources at rival studios estimate the movie could lose $100 million theatrically. It will be able to earn back some of that money in television and streaming licensing deals, as well as through home entertainment sales and rentals.

Not SJW, Asian - as they did with Transformers. Sh.t movie but made mega millions.
Problem here wasn't the SJW, its just that the franchise has exhausted itself with diminishing returns.
