Testers Wanted - Netflix DNS Proxy

For those interested, if your ISP blocks the use of third party DNS servers (like mine does) I have found a way to bypass the restriction.

I found Getflix that offer the same DNS service but they have an additional service called DNS-Over-VPN. It works wonderfully but they charge for the service. It got me thinking that I could do that myself.

So I set up a normal PPTP VPN to an office PC, set its DNS manually to the tvunblock.com servers. I set the VPN to only direct DNS traffic over the VPN. Thus you still get full bandwidth on your home connection, your just using DNS traffic over the VPN which equates to less that 300kb a day. And it works 100% all the time! If anyone is interested PM me and i'll guide you through the steps.

Best of all, it does not cost me a cent.

Bah, Hulu bans IP blocks and I'm guessing they've banned the block in in as they're way more strict on GEOIP than Netflix is!

I wonder if I can replace backend with a new IP to see if it works... Only question is how to see what IP's aren't banned!

Did the above help to get HULU working again, JSHEED ? :erm:

I'm rebuilding the backend now on a newer Linux kernel and moving from HAProxy to SNIProxy which should make a world of difference and offer more support for more devices. It also allows me to wildcard domains to get around GEOIP so I no longer need to find the specific subdomain to proxy.

It should be up later tonight on the same IP.

Hi OP, Netflix and Hulu weren't working this morning with the proxy - was the server down for maintenance ?

Hi
I just found a lift time subscription to Getflix for $30 (30 yeras).
Is this worth it?
Thanks

Rebuilt on a new host / IP to see if Hulu unblocks. Anyone care to let me know?

If it doesn't work then i'm pretty sure its impossible unless you have a residential IP to bounce off of as Hulu blocks a ton of datacenter IP's....

EDIT: still blocked - impossible to bypass unless someone knows of a provider that can provide residential IP's...

Seems to have gone offline sometime today for some reason.

I don't have access till I get home, will check when home and fix...

Process crashed. I built in a check to make sure it's running smoothly and restart if needed. It should be self healing now.

Please check and confirm working.

Thanks,

Not working unfortunately, I have no throughput at all when using the DNS.

I'm watching Netflix right now.

a) Are you trying to access Netflix
b) On what device?
Yes, trying to watch Netflix on my iPad. The day before yesterday everything was fine and now when I have this DNS active I get no Internet access at all.

@TVUnblock: We are investigating reports that Netflix has started blocking our DNS and are trying to find a solution. Apologies!

Just updated my IP now. NETFLIX is up and running for me, could continue a mini series I started watching as well as a a new one. If the DNS is down, it will be down for everybody, not a select number of users.

Issues seem intermittent at this point.

It looks like Netflix is actively trying to block users who are using the CDN but didn't auth via the IP they're connecting to the CDN with (at a guess). I'd need to troubleshoot further.

Basically Proxy > Auth > Then it changes to your IP > CDN > Netflix content ---- SO if you're IP connecting to the CDN isn't in their login DB then I assume they bounce you.
