Thailand Trip Report

After SP chicken I got back to Nimman and did some admin, picked up some laundry from the shop below our apartment (40-60baht/kg) and headed out for a coffee. Ristr8to in Nimman is quite highly rated so I stopped off there for an iced coffee which was delicious if a bit on the high side for Chiang Mai. I also snagged a glass noodle sausage from a street vendor

I don't know if I'm a fan of Northern Thai cuisine. I prefer the balance of flavours from 'normal' Thai food rather than the influences from the North. Or maybe I've just eaten at some places that I don't enjoy. Not sure yet. More experimentation has to be done.

WTF is that ?? Looks like a cut open lizzard ?

I'm saving big time for a trip. All your thread's fault. :p BUT i'm not eating that !!

It was fish, I promise :p Wasn't bad at all, just split, stuffed and deep fried. Have you never had whole fish?

I've had whole fish, but not fish with a dragon's head on it :D

1. How cool is it to say I ate a dragon
2. If you're going to Thailand, be prepared to try a lot of **** you haven't before :p

Fair enough.. But you do know that you might not know what you're ordering :D

Friday was our last day in Chiang Mai and were really sorry to go. Transport was a scheduled Uber which cost 290B from Nimman to Chiang Mai Airport.

The flight was pretty uneventful. TripAdvisor advice was around 400B + toll fees to the city with a taxi, and there are also trains and buses, but with two sizable pieces of luggage (excluding hand luggage), I decided to just take the Uber. Bill was 390B so definitely worth it, and it took around 45minutes to get to our AirBnB, around 10 minutes walk away from Khao San Road.

Our host was amazing, and she showed us the way to take the river boat almost all the way to MBK Mall. Think the cost is around 9B.

This place is absolutely insane. Every single floor is filled to the brim with both products and people. Everywhere. The place is crazy busy on every level. We headed to the food court on the top floor, but nothing really looked great. I got the old standby:

Tom Yum Goong

It wasn't great. The heat just served to mask the lack of real flavour.

After a few hours of shopping we headed to supper.

In my hours of research, I had found out about an app/website called Eatigo, which seems quite popular in SEA. Basically it works on giving users an up to 50% discount on bills at various restaurants, the idea being that the slower the restaurant is traditionally is during a certain time, the bigger the discount at that time. Clever.

I had booked at Amaya Food Gallery, for the Friday night seafood buffet, which is normally 1500B, but with the discount was 750Bpp, not at all a bad price.

There's a more thorough review on the place on Youtube but my verdict: Not bad. Not great, but definitely worth the price. After experiencing one type of food more or less constantly since we had arrived in Thailand, it was a nice change to have a variety, which included roast and steaks, sushi, Indian food, cheese platters, pasta/pizza etc etc.

What camera and lens was this with? Also those cooking school pictures.

You mentioned in an earlier post that you have a Fuji and used a 56mm 1.2 lens.

Really like the consistent colour, especially the night shots.

Throughout the trip I used the X-T2 either with the 56mm 1.2 or the 18-55mm, and my S7 Edge. The one above was taken with the S7. Editing (including colour) was done in Lightroom, but not all are edited.

Thanks :)

Only saw this now :p

I got back from Thailand on Friday. Had an amazing time in Bangkok and Phuket.

So, when will we see pics of you shagging a ladyboy? Nobody wants to see your diabetes-inducing food tbh.

lmfao, I shagged no ladyboy...went there with my BF.

We were in Bangkok for 5 days and then Phuket (Patong) for 8 days and then Singapore for 2 days. Enjoyed Bangkok for it's city life, but Phuket was a lot of fun on the beaches and doing an island tour to Phi Phi and scooting around te island as we pleased.

The night life in Patong is great and we did go to a gay club where there was a drag show, which is was actually quite awesome. My first time in a gay club >.< lol

Singapore is hella expensive.

Thinking about going to Thailand for holiday. Which airlines did you guys use?

Do you know whether transit through UAE (Abu Dhabi) specific is as much of a pain as it seems?
