The 200,000+ km thread

I would like the know any owner with the highest mileage for their French car...

Friend of mine sold his Megane with about 440000km on the clock. It was used almost exclusively for long distance driving though.

Had exactly this before a taxi did his thing with it.

A Damn shame, i love this car, stronger than most cars out there.

480000.2 - terrible photo for my OCD.

the misalignment between the 4 and the rest is even worse

Lol that's better than having some major damage, so I'll take it.

Which car?

Here is my original post:

Behold my 1999 Hyundai Accent 1.3 carb.
457267km
I stay in the vaal, and drive to sandton almost everyday. At which point I still drive more since I'm a field tech. I do over 50k a year easy.

Toyota's shouldn't even be in this thread, it's a given that all of them can do over 200 000KM's :p

My first car, a Toyota Corolla 2005 which I've since handed down to my mother, should be reaching the 200 000KM milestone next month. Currently it's on 199 000KM and I haven't had to do anything besides the normal wear and tear items (Shocks, brakes, clutch) and yearly services.

Hope you using Magnetec - its the only oil you should be using...

Been using it since first service on my car - now on 125 000 - hyundai i20 1.6

I used to swear by that stuff but apparently it's not so great as oils go, it's a marketing man's oil.

Caltex Delo 400 is what I was recommended by a few mechanics I spoke to as they have found it is one of the best(ie cost vs results) for use in ultra demanding industrial diesel engines, long distance trucks/huge generators/earth moving equipment etc:
Caltex Delo 400LE for diesel engines, supports new fangled motors that require low soot/particle, ie low emission engines equipped with advanced emission control technologies.

Caltex Delo 400 good for petrol engines - that's what I use.

Neither is it overly expensive either R250-R300 5L

The industrial guys don't skimp on substandard oil neither do they pay for bs that's not needed, they need the stuff that protects the engine/extends engine life, ie saves money from both aspects - not paying for bs and it works.

Apparently the Caltex long-life coolant is also highly regarded, wasn't as easy to find as the oil when I needed some but I saw a display of it at Midas the other day.

2007 320i at 210 000km. Replaced VVT motor few months ago.

97 Polo Classic 1.4i , 354k km then sold

92 Opel Calibra, 260k odd km, still running( engine has been rebuilt about 20k km ago)

Semantics ;D

:D

I also first assumed the entire engine but on a 2007 Bimmer it could be a bit pricey methinks. Although I have never come across VVT motors, I thought the mechanisms were all driven by oil pressure?

/waits for ForceFate to chime in

Update.

I hit 218'000km this week. No problems to report, although I do notice my battery struggling to get the car started in the cold mornings. The battery acid levels are still good (sealed battery but with removable caps, so I fill it up if it gets low), so I suspect a combination of cold weather and a tired battery might cause an unforeseen expense in the near future. Roll on summer! :p
