The 200,000+ km thread

Vehicles I have owned and sold:

Opel Astra 1.6cs - 280 000km (Solid car with no problems)
E36 BMW 325I - 260 000km (No problems but thirsty)
E46 BMW 320D - 190 000km (No problems)
3.0tdi Nissan Hardbody - 390 000km (head crack, fixed and sold, Owned from 220 000km)
2.8 Toyota Hilux - 395 000km (Head crack, fixed and sold) Bought with 200 000km
2.4 Toyota Hilux - 460 000km (Engine was perfect,Body was badly rusted, Owned from 70 000km)
2.5 D4D Hilux - 398 000km (Owned from 90 000km and just replaced a turbo, best I ever owned)

I Currently own: Will own till the wheels fall off!
2007 3.0 D4D Hilux - 260 000km (Clutch,Waterpump)
2007 3.0 D4D Hilux - 350 000km (Gearbox recon)
E90 BMW 320i - 120 000km (lots of problems, previous owner did not do maintenance)

Vehicles of friends that I see with my own eyes:

2.7i Hilux - 460 000km (works hard on a farm)
3.0 D4d Hilux - 430 000km (no props)
3.0 D4D Hilux - 460 000km
1.4 Corsa Utility - 360 000km (bought new)

Never buy vehicles with low Kilos. Aftermarket warranty has paid for most of the big repairs on my old vehicles.

Those Hilux's! Never knew they had such life in them. Jeepers
 
I think the Hilux is one of those vehicles that just prove that a proper turbo diesel can keep going just as long as a petrol

And believe me I regularly drive it hard. Sitting at 150kmh for 100s of ks a day or towing a loaded trailer.

That motor is extremely reliable - the guys who know their stuff (UK Merc forum) reckon 500 000 miles on that engine with ease.

Almost all of the mileage was done on the open road, the clutch is still the original, as is most of the mechanicals. Maintenance was done by Merc up to about the 250 000km mark and at the stage I hit a few issues in my life and just kinda stopped maintaining it at all. It went well over 100 000km without a service or an oil change along the way.
 
often wondered about 15k service intervals. im sure older cars didn't get 15k services but they still surviving today. always thought it just to screw the customer and keep the parts business thriving.
 
That might be true. But if you're planning to have a car that can be mentioned in this thread, I'd rather be safe with those service intervals
 
Regularly changing the Oil and filter is especially important and air filter if you drive in very dusty conditions. Extended engine life can only happen with slow/low wear levels, thats were fresh oil/filters comes in.

Not my experience.

My merc (1997 E320) is just under 200,000kms. Only thing ever went wrong is where a rock hit the cooling fan + assembly and the parts where not expensive at all. Original merc parts used.

Expect it could be different for newer models.
