Not ideal that it is a petrol with that displacement, but at the time my dad was in a tough spot with his Defender having died and this was all he could buy on such short notice.

Engine temp is usually coolant temp. Oil temp would be separate

Oil temp gives you a better idea of when the engine block, valves and pistons are ready to take it hard. :twisted:

If I had my way, I would have gauges to measure engine block temp, combustion chamber temp, coolant temp, intake manifold temp, gearbox oil temp, engine oil temp and viscosity, as well as exhaust gas temp because I am OCD like that

My OBD adapter can do many of those, but obviously not all of them

I was about to say most of them are probably there but don’t have gauges and then I read this.

2004 Nissan Almera 1.6 Auto : currently sitting at 229 000kms. Bought it at 90 000kms so far i have replaced / repaired:
1. Radiator - R1500.00
2. Rear oil seal: R 1000.00
3. Brakes: about R1800.00
4. Battery about R1000.00
5. Head gasket R5000.00!

She's my first car and I will keep her till Kingdom come.


2013 VW Polo Vivo Tiptronic 63kw : sitting at 193 000 kms Bought it at 15 000kms.

Odd to see a Nissan need a head gasket before 300k km. Those engines are usually pretty tough
