Decat on a modern car will require either software modifications or a device for simulating correct oxygen sensor readings, else you'll get an engine light.

You call it a lambda fooler or something, so not an issue, but if one plans to mod a car then stay away from a non-turbo car at all costs unless you have plenty of money to spend on a turbo...
 
@ spazmatic... ah my apologies I forgot to add with its software mod. Apparently you can mod its software at subaru and it doesnt affect the warranty or guarantee on the car. My bad I dont proof read my posts :P

They not really big mods, you can get the TRD fiberglass kit from toyota (for weight and aero and the suspension braces) and later turbo charge it. You can change the car's tyres to 18" as well the car has been built to accomodate these upgrades. Perhaps fairly easily is an incorrect phrase but it wont be difficult to do it either. See the thing is you dont really have to change much like doing cutting and stuff to the body, toyota's chief engineer stated basically that he designed the car to a modified boy racer.

TRD achieved 230kW by installing a bi-turbo system, of course its easy for them to do it. As for us depends on how much you take home at the end of the month, but like most people you wont go and modify the car all at once I suppose, if you plan to buy it as a good looking toy. I plan to mod it slowly as I get bored over the years. LOL i will post here in a few years time to let you guys know how that worked out :D

Well you not going to get aftermarket parts so quickly its a new breed of car, its also limited so I wonder if you would get it? but its a toyota and a subaru so im sure you must. The car was launched this year so I dont think you would get thirdy party parts now.

I was speaking about decanting the exhaust with the dealership, they said its not a good idea. They said it would be better to leave the tail and just fit a completely different free flow system. Apparently its more sound to do it that way because of the design of the dual catalytic converters in this system.

I dont know about your point with turbo vs NA. Yes all cars must have CATs as its environmental law. I mean yes you can mod a turbo fairly easily because the system is already in place, but you wont get much more of a boost before you bottleneck the system, or end up with a lag so big its like there is no turbo, then you will have to do some massive mods there after to take it further than it is. A NA car on the other can still be supercharged/turbo charged. Though the costs will be more on the NA car I think. Dont forget the M3 in terms of tracks times and records has never lost to its turbo charged/supercharged competitors. Anyways this is personal preference, so im not going to argue turbo vs NA any further

I didn't check that when I drove ours, but it probably does, as the box is from the Impreza, and that has it - I'll see what I can find out.
 
also please find out for me, I want that TRD exhaust system with the 4 pipes, but toyota is quoting R15 000 is it a pure cosmetic upgrade ?

Yup,that's the price, but it's not just cosmetic - you are looking at a different sound and marginally better performance.

If it was my car, I would live with the twin pipes and spend the 15k on something else! ;)

Thanks for confirming that - our new one is having a PDI and I haven't been able to check.

the standard spec wont have it, but apprently the high spec has it


EDIT**

Im doing the 15k exhaust cause its a 2 door coupe, so I might as well get 4 pipes yes? lol, looks are more important than performace for me, if i really wanted performance I wouldve bought a BMW 1M / M3 or cayman S by now

The main differences are:

Standard

16" wheels
cloth seats
normal aircon
halogen lights

High

17" rims
leather
climate control
speedo cruise
Blue tooth
DLR's
Xenon (HID) with washer
keyless entry and start
self dipping interior mirror.

That's about it.

Sorry ~ I will speak English..;)

Daylight Running Lights

Xenon/HID lights = very bright high intensity headlights with headlight washer.

Self dipping interior mirror = mirror changes its angle and takes the glare from your eyes if some Yahoo comes up behind you with his bright lights on.

They have different brakes as well. Fazda does the high spec have hill assist? and does it come standard with a boot spoiler?

Yes the brakes are 1 inch bigger on the High spec - at this stage, as we haven't seen a High spec and there is nothing in the literature to suggest otherwise, I would say that the High spec does NOT have hill assist, but we will have to wait and see. All the photos show a spoiler and 4 pipes, but we know that the pipes are wrong so, that too must wait, I'm afraid.

BTW, thanks for all the questions, thanks to you I scored 100% on the product knowledge test on the base model this morning....closest score to mine was 75%! :D:D
